Yikes...Gen IV window regulator issues...again!

:( Damn...been watching the posts about window regulators on Gen IV's and gritting my teeth and hoping for the best...until today. Went to put the window up so my automatic gate sticker showed and suddenly...a loud, sharp grinding noise. I continued on home and managed to get the window down into the door gently. It looks as though the rear of the window wants to go up and down but the front seems to want to stay stationary. The original owner of this car gave me his repair orders and one shows a warranty replacement of this same passenger window regulator on 6/17/10 at 4681 mi. It currently has about 9200 mi. Any possibility this might be under warranty due to the known problems with these regulators? Or if not, what is the most current "fix" and costs involved? Anything you can share will be appreciated. If your car is under a factory extended warranty, then it is covered. If there's no factory warranty, then you're on your own. Even though this is a very common failure, there is no special allowance by Chrysler to cover the replacement. The best thing to do find the least expensive price for the part (Viper Parts of America, etc.) and pay for the labor or perform the labor yourself if you're comfortable with doing so. There are several threads on door panel removal and regulator replacement on this forum.

Thanks guys...my 2008 ACR has the extended warranty but it is the convertible I just bought that has the problem. That's just the way the cookie crumbles I guess. Checking on prices now for the part.

The best thing to do find the least expensive price for the part (Viper Parts of America, etc.) and pay for the labor or perform the labor yourself if you're comfortable with doing so. They replaced mine under warranty (2008 ACR).

The dealer told me that they are covered for life now so if they need to be replaced again it won't cost me anything (hopefully I'll never have to find out). I'm not sure if the "covered for life" thing is for all chrysler parts or something special my dealer does?

Paul...thanks for the observation. Yes, I read that article...well done but a bit out of my wheelhouse for me to attempt it.
In the latest VCA Viper Magazine there is a 3 page helpful article about this issue. Lots of pictures on the window lifting mechanism.

Careful, by your description it may not be the regulator. It is possible to inspect inside the door with a bright flashlight and determine if the window glass is properly attached (or remove the door panel and check it out that way). Having the rear of the window move while the front does not places some suspicion on the glass having come loose (or broken free) from it's attachment points.

If there's dealer claiming to replace window regulators for free the life of the vehicle, I'd surely like to see that in writing...........

It is the issue with the 24 hours of Lemans on the cover. Most people have gotten it over the past couple weeks, but due to the mail, you might not yet have received it.

I believe VCA is looking into the possibility of putting the magazine up on the web in addition to the printed edition. This would allow members to search out back issues for previous articles, or find that advertiser that you wanted to contact.

I know that VCA has brought this to the attention of SRT. Through the VPA they have already seen several new, modified lifting mechanisms, and hopefully SRT is getting a handle on this known issue.

Please contact VPA to learn the latest on the newest release of this part. If you do not feel comfortable doing this replacement yourself, you can use this information to make sure your dealership is furnishing you with the latest parts

Agreed...this doesn't sound like a regulator issue.

Hi guys...thanks for the input. My dealer is going to order the part and will know whether it is necessary to be replaced once they open up the door. That way we are covered in either case. Something tells me that whoever posted that hasa good relationship with their dealership and since they replaced two for him already the dealer will cover it should it happen again. Can't imagine that Chrysler is covering this part for life now.
