Hello everyone! I am the new owner of a 2005 Viper Copperhead #130. I am still waiting for the car to arrive from Iowa. The car has 15K original miles and it has the original run flat tires. I am having a heck of a time finding tires, run flat or not. Can someone suggest how I find tires? Are there substitute sizes? Any help would be appreciated, and I am very excited to be a new Viper owner. Good to be here

I did contact Jon B. He gave me a price on a set of tires and when I asked him what brands he had available he got offended for some reason. All I wanted to know is what tires he was recommending.

I have since talked to Jon B. He was pretty slammed and I was “kicking tires”, pun intended.

If you haven't dealt with Jon, that's just him. He can be off-putting at times, but he's really a pretty good guy once you get to know him. He apparently gets some people who take up his time while using him as a resource for his expertise, and then they go elsewhere to make a purchase....that's why he can get short sometimes, which is understandable. He explained it to me a while back when we had "words" when he thought I was doing that to him.

And he still may be the only dude in the U.S., and maybe the world, who was capable of acquiring an ACR-X oil fill cap that didn't have an ACR-X engine attached to it, when I was looking to buy one. I challenged him on his tag line and found that when he says he can get anything for a Viper, he means it. Great resource for the Viper community.

So totally off topic, but what's different about the ACR-X oil cap? Now I'm just curious, lol.

I called him once, never again and managed to get tires very easily and quickly. My view, why take an attitude from someone who is basically working for you. There are many experts in their field who don’t have an attitude issue.

Reguy, who did you use for a tire source? The biggest thing that bothered me was when I asked Jon what brand of tires he had, he acted like I had offended him somehow, and what he had is what you get and just don’t bother me with silly questions.

I ordered them through Tire Rack. I did most of the leg work on line then spoke by phone with a rep to finalize the order. This goes back a few years. As I recall, the rep’s first name was Dustin. He was very polite and helpful. They shipped the tires directly to my dealer who did the install. The other person suggested tires that were different in size than what came stock and was on the car. When I told him I wanted to think about going up in size he seemed very irritated that I didn’t want to order them immediately and told me he didn’t have time to waste on tire kickers. By the way, I decided not to go with the bigger tires.

I had the exact same experience when I asked him what brands he stocked and what the date codes were ... so I just went and bought from Tirerack; they had no question answering my questions ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Exactly. I guess some can look past the attitude, but as someone who has been in customer service all his life, being treated properly is all part of the experience.

Had a Great Experience with Jon, The date code on my tires was a couple months before I purchased.
Couldn't have been happier with buying experience.

Have Nitto Invo's too. I know... not a fav in the Viper community.
Only have 8,321 miles on 'em but they've "timed out". They've been a great tire for the street. Plenty of grip off the line and very good in the mountains and canyons (..early in a turn expect a little tread wiggle, then they hook up) . Smooth ride, low noise and no tram-lining.

Mine still have plenty of tread, but I'm being VERY careful with 'em now cuz of their age. Making sure they're good and warm before pushing 'em even a little.

Next I'm gonna go with the Continental Extreme Contact Sport2's.
Have the Conti Extreme Contact Sport+ tires on the Porsche and they've been absolutely fantastic. Very excited to drive the same tire on both cars.

The Continental Extreme Contact Sport 2's have also served me well. I'm out in the NW, so I wanted a sport tire that had a good reputation in the wet.

Nice to see some more tires finally coming around on the market in our sizes. I have run the Michelin Pilot SuperSports pretty much exclusively on my 04 and have been really happy with them, but I know they can be hit and miss to find. My dad had an 03 with the Invos on it that I drove a couple of times and even did some laps on a track with. I didn't notice them seeming all that different from the PSS on the track at least, but that was also only the first or second time I had been on a track to begin with. They seem like nice enough tires for a standard street car.

I've driven my Conti's on mountain roads in all manner of weather conditions on the same day (changing elevations going up and down the mountain)..and they just never let loose or broke free. The only time they got a little greasy was after running full tilt on hot canyon roads (keeping up with a number of Carrera's) for ~2 hours straight. But the Conti's immediately communicated the condition so I lifted off and stayed safe.

Again, really looking forward to driving the Conti's on the Viper!
