SRT-10 - Front Tire Flaps Replacement

BTW, liked your clear flaps. One thing to watch for, I believe these are designed to snap off before damaging something more expensive (like your inner fender), so don't make 'em too brawny! Gen 3 flaps have plastic fasteners as well, likely to assist in protecting more expensive bodywork in...

SRT-10 - Front Tire Flaps Replacement

Interesting... on my Gen III (2005) these plastic panels are behind the front tire. It would create turbulent airflow into the body channel where the primary cats reside, much like flipping the sun visors straight up on a convertible when the top is down. Seems odd that it would have the same...

    Vert vs coupe

Since they made fewer coupes for Viper generations prior to Gen IV, coupes are scarcer. For Gen 3 in particular, no coupes were made from 2003-2005, so if you want a Gen 3 coupe, your only choice is a 2006. Because of the relative rarity in Gen 3, coupes sell on average at $8-10k more than a...

    03 vs 04 service manuals

The 2003 manual has the stoopid typo on the rear shock lower mounting bolt torque at 140 ft-lbs instead of 100, misleading a few of us into snapping off that bolt. Pisser. There is a general service manual, then detailed specific volumes for diagnostics on the power train, chassis, and body...

How difficult is it to remove and replace the differential?

I attached both half-shafts before torquing down the rear end mounting bolts. If you pulled the toe link on the side where you dropped the knuckle, make sure the special alignment shim didn't fall out of the frame. The diff carrier floats around a bit on its rubber mounts, so alignment isn't...

new Viper gets a mention on Top Gear

On one of the shows, Clarkson is sliding the Viper all over the track as he usually does, saying what a beast of a car it is (with a few negative jabs), but finishes with an "I love it!. YouTube has some of the Viper on Top Gear segments.

    Looking for MGW shifter.

Does the stock Gen 3 shift knob fit the MGW?

Tire time, what to do, what to do.

I believe Kumho stopped producing a 345/30-19 (or any aspect 345/19).

Tire time, what to do, what to do.

For whatever reason, Tire Rack has the Pilot Super Sport front (275/35-18) listed at only $295.00, compared to the PS2 at $408.00 in the same size. SS 345/30-19 rears are about $537.00, about $40 bucks more than a PS2. So you do save some money by going with a full set of Super Sports, at...

    Question about rear suspension?

On the rear suspension, the end of the toe link assembly that attaches to the knuckle (the "outer") has a tie rod end. The inboard end of the toe link has no tie rod end joint and terminates in a bolt to the frame through a hole in the toe link arm itself. Also note that there are special...

Crank pully and bolt came off

Yeah, hang in there Twister! I've admired your enthusiasm for awhile now. Some day you'll look back on this experience and laugh about it. I once left the bolts out of the hold-down plate for a brand new radiator on my old '71 Rally Sport Z/28 show car. I got a few blocks down the road and...

Pics of our Viper, Ferrari and Lamborghini Cruise Today

Nice pics! Snakeskin Green and bright red have my vote for the most eye-grabbing colors. Looks like a fun group of cars for sure...

    Engine issue

Speaking of sssam's comment, running with no coolant, a blown head gasket, or no coolant flow can cause severe damage. This is one of those cases where it is best to pay for the flatbed/tow rather than risk driving it in, even if it's a sub- five minute drive.

Gears vs speeds vs RPM.....warning, actual math included

Hmmm.... the charts are for Gen III/IV? In which case the stock rear tire diameter is very close to 27.2". So yes, you'd need to correct speeds to your tire diameter if not 27.2".

Why does Ralph call it a Roadster?

So the dark window tint is a modern curtain and my Viper is a 2-door phaeton??? :headbang:

    Viper Floor Mats!

Rubber is kinda tacky on a car like this, IMO... if you are doing wet weather driving could have a cheap set of rubber mats for that. The original factory Viper logo mats are available, but I like the factory-licensed logo mats from Lloyd since they are thicker and better quality. See website...

    Gen 4 window scratches

Careful with buffing out glass. If your fingernail catches in the scratch at all, it is probably too deep. I used a chemical glass polishing agent with a high speed buffer and it looked worse after the buffing than before. That polishing compound etches into the surface all right, but your...

    Crankshaft Pulley?

The crankshaft pulley is a separate part from the crankshaft damper (pulley bolts to the front of the damper). The pulley is the cheaper part so if it is somehow damaged it would be the part to replace before messing with the damper. A good site to check for parts prices for your Viper is...

Crank pully and bolt came off

Yes, the fan is driven by the same hydraulic fluid that is used for the power steering (and the same pump). The fan drive is sensitive to foreign particle contamination, so if something internal to the power steering pump or the power steering unit fails, it can take out the hydraulic fan drive...

    Engine issue

All bad signs... body shop may have left something in a bad state (Fan(s) running?, is the radiator blocked-- masked off?, is there a normal coolant level in the reservoir?, did they drain the coolant and not bleed the system?). Generally, cooling system problems also raise oil temp so I would...

How difficult is it to remove and replace the differential?

I replaced my differential last Spring with a Visco-Lok 3.73 built by Unitrax. They've done lots of Viper rears and are very good at it. You could send your's there (SoCal), although there is about 95 pounds (with the box) to ship. I did replace it in my garage without a lift (two floor...

    Who purchased an extended warranty?

I have a MaxCare on my '05 as well. Haven't used it, but then... Could have used it for a leaky oil cooler line but I didn't want another one of the crappy OEM hoses on there. I would have a difficult time taking this car to any local dealer unless it was a major failure. It is obvious they...

Got A 2004 Viper and need help all ready

Years ago, before I owned a code reader, I had a gas cap check lite on a Nissan Z, and folks told me it would take something like twenty drive cycles to clear. Can you believe it-- twenty? Wasn't worried about getting thru a smog check, but still-- it is annoying enough staring at the CEL for...
