Another good reason to keep the heat shields on is in the event the power steering cap comes off. Less chance of landing right on header and catching fire.
I originally had no interest in using the soft top. It is cumbersome and takes up a lot of space. But after getting caught in a surprise rain storm or two, I decided to start using it. Once you get use to, it really isn't that bad to put it together and take it apart, etc.

If you want a little more seat of the pants feel without increasing how load the car is, why not go a different route? Consider doing a high axle rear end ratio, a set of pulleys and an aluminum flywheel.
The only negative about the aluminum flywheel is that the car may be a little jerky...

While I can appreciate wanting to keep a car preserved, the amount of enjoyment that has been missed over the last 18 years that car has been in existence would not equal whatever increased value that car poseses over a similar car that has been enjoyed.

Pricing on Vipers has too many variables for KBB or NADA to have a handle on pricing. Year/color/mileage are obviously the biggest factors.
I have seen cars with 10K miles that looked like hell and I have seen cars with 30K miles that look pristine. Another factor to consider is age of tires...
