I was wondering if heat shields are needed on a gen 2 with ceramic coated headers on it?

I would say yes...as the ceramic coating that I have seen is often inadequate or flakes off...or both.

i have bellanger headers. no heat shields close to 2 years no problems

I should also have said that I have seen many Gen II Vipers running headers with and without heat shields. This has indeed been argued for years among owners, installers, vendors, and manufacturers.

Lets face facts its always better to have the heat shields, no matter what you are running. How can keeping things cooler not be better.

I've seen it done both ways... I personally have no heat shields on my bellangers, looks cooler, and I haven't had issues with a combined 60k miles or so...

I kept my heat shields with my M&M headers just in case...

I have Belanger headers, and removed the shields. True, lots of discussion on the board about it, I read everything I could find on this board on and the Alley. I also talked to several Viper owners too. So, since I removed the shields I decided to add AB high temp wires, and heat socks. I covered a few sensitive parts as well just in case. BTW, I have RT cats and Corsa exhaust. Maybe you can find my post and read it for more info. Three things of interest, first it does run cooler. I had my mechanic do a before and after temperature check. Second, the sound at WOT is amazing. Lastly, it looks awesome. Good luck with your decision.

Another good reason to keep the heat shields on is in the event the power steering cap comes off. Less chance of landing right on header and catching fire.

I've got a power steering vent tube on my cap. Doesn't that prevent the cap from coming off? Is there a need to worry about the heater box melting on the passenger side with no heat shields? I love look of my headers. It'd be a shame to cover them up.

then do not sweat little stuff, leave your headers open you will be fine
