    Towing Question

I got them from member Jerry Dobson whose VCA chapter sells them. Excellent quality, very inexpensive. The front hook uses holes already there; the rear hook needs holes drilled. I did it because as a low-lowered daily driver I want to be able to get the car moved ASAP if needed. I recently...

    Broken CV Joint

Seems like everyone talks about halfshafts. I only made one slightly oval before I found it and replaced it. A few months ago I had a surprise axle stub failure. By the looks of the crack, it had been there a while before letting go. T56 transmissions aren't always durable; I've had mine...

    09 HP questions

There is another way to interpret the EPA data. The fuel economy is reported in miles per gallon, not miles per BTU. So if the gallon of fuel has fewer BTUs, the vehicle will travel less distance. It says nothing about miles per BTU, which I think until you get to the tiniest details, would...

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

Ha, I wish Tom Hanks would help. Anyone have input with the UV issue? Here is a link to a video training clip from 3M. At the end they do not mention anything about a UV coating. Logging in If that doesn't work, start here: 3M™ Headlight Lens Restoration System - A fast and easy way to...

What car scares the crap out of you?

My replica Cobra was a white knuckle drive for the first year before I discovered what a poor design the manufacturer had used for the rear suspension.

Anybody move from 17" to 18" wheels for tire cost and availability; not appearance?

Re: Anybody move from 17" to 18" wheels for tire cost and availability; not appearanc I almost had you arrested for attempted murder. I opened my garage door and without looking walked out and nearly killed myself in a tower of rubber. Absolutely positively was less than 24 hours! And they're...

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

No string effect, but it didn't really seem like that kind of glue. It is 15 years old so it has aged a lot, but it now seems more like a caulk. Even when warm, it doesn't feel that sticky, either.

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

And after 30 minutes of elbow grease with plastic polish the lens looks better already. It still has a yellow tinge, though. Most of the issue was on the outside. note: compare to post #10 So - for the real experts: What is best way to make the lens like glass again? This one is more clear...

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

These closeups will be hard to tell what part of the body you are looking at, but it shows that the black housing has a groove and the clear lens has a tongue... tongue in groove with grey sealer inside. The grey sealer was not all that stiff after 15 years.

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

And thanks to KNG SNKE for the oven directions: Bake at 300F for 12-14 minutes. Use large flat blade screwdriver to pry between the clear plastic lip and black plastic housing, starting at the lower edge of the headlight. Once it lets go in one area, the rest seems to come easily. The upper...

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

To get the clear plastic insert out of the body, the metal tab seems to be in the way. You should be able to push up on the black plastic housing (area circled) and pull the top of the clear part to "roll" it out over the metal tab. note: I forgot to get a picture, but there are two more...

Before everything comes out, push the rubber grommet into the body and feed the wire inside. Also, pull out the stiff vent tube. It's just pushed in, no glue.

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

Inside there are sheet metal screws holding the silvered plastic reflectors, wire bundles, and an interior clear plastic section in place. There are also two sheet metal screws with heads showing on the top of the headlight body. You should then be able to remove the reflector and aimer level...

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

The rear panel of the headlight comes off, of course, so you can change your bulbs. There are three wingnuts that come off and a thumbscrew that will stay on the headlight back cover. It can be a time-consuming effort to pry off the back of the headlight. The back is stuck on because the gasket...

    How to rescue yellowed headlights

I have disassembled a Gen 1 headlight that was functionally fine, but unusable due to a cloudy, yellowed lens. In the following posts I'll outline how to do it. Mine were pretty bad; thanks to almost-neighbor viper067 for saving his from the body shop.

    Educate Me on "Oil Starvation"

This is a two-way issue. There is the urge to go to thicker oil when tracking but thicker oil will be slower to return to the pan... A safe operating practice would no high-G manuevers until the oil temperature (not coolant temperature) is up.

good price for rear calipers on eBay

There is a pair of stock non-ABS rear calipers on the auction website (title has "BOTH SIDES WITH HOSES!!") that is relatively inexpensive with two days left and would be ideal core returns for a caliper upgrade. PS The calipers fit nicely inside the USPS Priority Mail medium size flat rate...
