    Sherman, CT Crash

I have 109K on my '94, live in the Tator Dodge area, and rain, cold, "dirt" etc don't stop me. Slow me down, yes, but stop, no. Maybe you owners of fancy Gen 3's or 4's can pick up a cheap Gen 1 or 2 for the DD stuff. ;)

    Seat belt location early 94

I imported a Canadian 1994 model into the US in 1998. Canada required seatbelts that mounted on the floor or frame, while the US model had to have "automatic" seatbelts. Therefore the US Viper belts had the roll-up mechanism for the lap and shoulder belt in the door and mounted to the floor...

    Sherman, CT Crash

The car was a 2002, so it has ABS. The beginning of the skid marks are stuttered, so the driver was on the brakes while in the left lane. Arguably if the skid marks were there maybe the road was a little grippy at the time of the accident. The two-dimensional perspective is bad, but I might...

    Mobil1 0W-40 for $4/qt.

No, but it is fine stuff. The diesel oil is 5W40 and would be about $12/gallon or $3/qt. From my Texaco days, that difference is in the ballpark for how much advertising costs are added to each gallon; $1 for Mobil 1 targeting automotive consumers and almost $0 per gallon for diesel oil.

Another Viper crash in NY today

Well, I'm not dead yet and still have a few miles to go with my '94 (now 110K and counting) so you'll have to put up with me for a while longer. (thank you)

Too many wrecks every spring and fall.

The stats would only be interpretable if compared to spring-fall accident rates of "normal" cars. I'll bet they go up, too. I'm with Garron (although I don't think Gen 1-2 have pyrotechnic seatbelt tensioners) that we should chastise anyone and Viper owners in particular that don't wear...

Another Viper crash in NY today

Engines consume a fixed volume of air; the air density changes with temperature, so a cylinder will suck in more "pounds" of air when the temperature is lower. The engine adds the right "pounds" of fuel to make it burn. Here's a simple table of density vs. temperature. Remember the correct...

    Headwork done on these heads?

I have a Gen 1, so am unfamiliar with the front mounted thermostat, but if it fell in the whole - isn't that a coolant passage? Oil won't make it go anywhere... How about filling the coolant and leave only the t-stat housing open, so that anything that fell in will either float up or be...

    Coolant leak from crossover gasket

I have medium size hands but am stubborn. It can be done without removing the intake if you remove the wiper arms and remove the cowl. The wiper arms are scary because you have to pop the plastic cover off, but then it's only four phillips screws to remove the cowl. As in your picture, you'll...

    The scrapping Viper

FYI, the two fascias are different in that the little air dam that hangs down is further forward on the Gen 1 than the Gen 2. The Roe duct, which is a hole on the underneath of the fascia, is behind this "air dam" on the Gen 1 and ahead of the air dam on the Gen 2. Here is what's left of the air...

Commuting Viper, dark nights, high beams...

I know this has been brought up before, just wondering if anyone has found a "best" idea. With daylight savings my commute home is mostly in the dark and too many others have 1) Jeep/truck with HIDs that tailgate (and yes, too much traffic to get away) 2) Granny lost or can't see unless high...

I might look really good in a wet bikini top ...

How wet would you get in an RT10 with the soft top

Add weatherstrip to the door over the speaker grill. Add to the sides of the top where the door contacts it. Look closely at the odd rubber thingy at the bottom forward corner of the side curtain. It can be done well, I had my car outside 100% of the time for about 10 years worth. I put on a...

Clunk or knock from right front wheel

Less likely than suggestions above, but a bad (loose) anti-roll bar end link comes to mind. Have to check that with both front wheels unloaded or at least equally loaded.

Upgraded Sway Bars for Gen II

A small, but inexpensive and easy thing is to put harder rear sway bar bushing on. A quicker responding rear bar may behave like a bigger bar depending on your driving style. Also, check all end links to see if any are loose. That could also be affecting your initial turn in. Your shocks...

How many of you leave your Viper in parking lots?

I have parked in public lots every day since 1998, but move over to the passenger side so my door can open without hitting the other car. I have a bizzillion more scratches from self-inflicted driving over things or on-road rock and sand spray than from parking lot dents. In fact, I'll have to...

    Radiator Question

Those caps are designed for marine use where coolant chemistries cannot be used (lake water or sea water used for coolant?) If you use such a cap with an automotive antifreeze, you are asking the additives in the antifreeze to prevent the zinc anode from corroding. The entire arsenal of...

Bad fuel can ruin your week.....

This cannot be accurate. Water and gasoline mix only in parts per million quantities. And the pick up tube (where the fuel is sucked from) is a few inches from the bottom of the tank. This allows the water to be periodically removed from a bottom drain. The tube is a nominal 5% volume up off...

Best coolant for aluminum radiators anybody???

Many, many years ago there was someone who only used WW + water. He bought a new block. I think the takeaway there is WW is not a corrosion inhibitor. I don't know that there are ingredients in WW you need beyond what is already in a low- or no- silicate coolant. The "cool" thing about...

I'm sure you didn't put on the original style head gaskets, you put on a new and improved version. Same goes for engine oil...

Best coolant for aluminum radiators anybody???

Did a little testing recently. Peak Global Lifetime was as good as any other for aluminum, steel, etc, but markedly better for magnesium, a metal not really found in auto engines and due to the chemistry, very difficult to protect. It must have something special...

Best 93 Oct. Gas to Use?

The thread Dom found has most of the answers. I was mistaken on one point, though. The qualifications to sell Top Tier gasoline require that all grades of gasoline have the additive treat rate, not just premium. Therefore Shell, Chevron, Kwiktrip, etc, all have the higher cleaning ability in...
