Headwork done on these heads?

Got my manifold off for powdercoating en made a few pics of the inlet ports on my cilinder heads.

I've got a Heffner car, with modified heads. Can you guys tell of the pics if the heads are indeed modified or not?

I also removed a vacuum pipe next to the thermostat and when I pulled the hose, the plastic connector went into the housing.

I cant see it anymore and I really don't how to get it out again??? Already used a vacuumcleaner, but without succes. Any help would be nice...

Is you car boosted or a head and cam car? Bc my car is supposed to be a heffner head cam car.. I am intrested to see what people say.

They aren't port matched which would be the first step. I'm no expert but I don't think so. Sending photos to Greg or contact Heffner. They keep pretty good records.

If I'm not mistaken to get that piece back it is a huge pita. I believe either the heads or the oil pan have to be removed.

You are kidding right!!!:omg:

Where can it go from the location it went in? Cant find a engine blow up document where you can see the routing:confused:

My guess would be those heads are ported. The stock ports are not that close to the size of the intake gasket. The finish in the port is also a give away.
Take a pic of the valve stem area to give us an idea of the work around the guides.

That rubber piece will take some work. I would pull the oil pan to see if it made it that far, but highly unlikely that it went all the way down on its own. You may have to run the engine for a few minutes to get the oil flow to send it down to the bottom.

I have a Gen 1, so am unfamiliar with the front mounted thermostat, but if it fell in the whole - isn't that a coolant passage? Oil won't make it go anywhere... How about filling the coolant and leave only the t-stat housing open, so that anything that fell in will either float up or be flushed out of the t-stat hole?

I also don't know if there is any type of fluid passing through there.

Inside is rather clean and I think only air passes through there. It also was a vacuum line that was attached there.

If oil or coolant would pass through it, I think you'll see it clearly dont you?

Will try again but with a bigger vacuumcleaner, just to see if I can **** it out again. (maybe ask my girlfriend to **** it out):rolaugh:

Tom, im pretty sure he's talking about hole that the fitting(pcv) connects to. If it fell in there i assume it would be sitting ontop of the cam&rods until the motor is turned over

Can't he measure the opening to see if it's same as stock to check the porting?

Not sure if this will work, but I once wrapped the end of a coat hanger with some duct tape with the sticky side out (sort of like a *** of bubble gum) and ran it down an area that was out of sight to retrieve a bolt that I dropped???

Good point! Will try that. I was also looking for a kind of flexible camera like thing. Then I can take a look inside to see where its at.

Really ***** that this happens, hope I succeed the easy way....

I did see one the # is 66550 it's $79.99 for purchase in stores only it comes with a 3ft. cable.

That's not a PCV valve but rather a CCV (Crank case ventilation) Orifice as the service manual states. It's a rubber grommet pushed onto the block with a plastic tee fitting. My plastic fitting fell through but it landed in the opening dangly precariously on the edge where it could've fallen further into the block. I pulled off the rubber grommet and fished for it with a hook and flashlight. PITA to get out. If it fell down through the crankcase, you'll need to drop the pan and oil pan baffle, more than likely it'll be sitting atop the baffle if that's the case.

What's that pink goop in the T-stat opening?

CCV and PCV are both ventilating the crank case, so they are essentially the same ;)
That is on top of the oiling system, so it will be in the block oil passages.

I have seen those cameras for rental at AutoZone.

The heads look to have had some work done on them (by virtue of the finish - as was mentioned before). BUT, there's a big difference between "some work done" and the "right work done"; pull them and have them flowed if you want to know how close to "right" the porting work is.;)

The pink goop is coolant residue if I'm not mistaken.

The pink is just my coolant. Its a longlife type that are pink/red colored.

Also got my hands on a flexible camera, I hope to use it someday this week.

Does anyone know how the chambers look inside, how far down could something go from where it fell?

Well, considering that is just for ventilation, it is not a normal oil passage and is not in the pressurized oiling system of the block. I can't really tell from my block now since it is all back together, but I would guess that there is not much between it and the oil pan, as in passages or holes. I would venture to say that there is just a small shelf in the block there and then it drops down to the cam and lifters, then to the crank and rods. After that it will most likely just sit on the windage tray until you pull the pan and take it out.

BTW, if you have a set of calipers, measure your intake ports (in standard please). I have the measurements to my JM stage3 heads right here and you can compare them to yours. I don't think they will be quite as large as mine, since mine are definitely port matched to the gaskets, but it will give you an idea of your porting. It looks to me that they just cleaned up the ports, and no extra flowing was done.

kees, why did you take your thermostat housing off? Are you getting that powder coated as well?

I ordered a spare thermostat from Roe racing a couple months ago, when I bought my radiator. My current one is still working, but because I do have easy access, I thought replacing it would be a good thing....

Only need a new gasket still, but Chuck will help me out with that:2tu:

Hell yes!!!!

Got the plastic thing out of the engine with the use of a camera and mechanical flex fingers (don't let my GF hear that I have those!)

It was stuck sideways between the cast housing and the chainsprocket. No way that I could flush it out or turno the motor over without doing damage (I think)

It was a PITA to get it out because the hole is rather small, but got it in the end. Was pretty happy to say the least!!!!

Got some nice contacts with Monster Energy for the Tunnelruns in Europe and I got a little sticker on my car now and the green looks awesome on a solid black car.

Should be something else compared to other vipers and if I don't like it in the end, I can always go with a diffrent color.:headbang:
