Yup, 918 HP C5 here. I love my '08 Viper (Bellangers, Penske tripple adj., 3.33 rear, Sidewidners, Stoptech Rotors, 151 Lbs weight loss), but I grew-up wrenching on Chevy's, and will always appreciate the first American Sports Car!
This was my 2nd DCP Dyno Day. Nothing like hanging around a dyno all day talking about cars :2tu: Rick was awarded his 9-second cap by the SoCal Club - his rubber was smoking on the dyno (needed some added weight in the rear.). Had a fabulous time, and saw some really nice cars. Looking...
That was mine. Went from 529/495 stock to 563/524 w. the exhaust and no added miles. With a few miles, the Venom controller should provide a few more. Had a great time.
A big thanks to DC Performance for providing a full day of dyno pulls and a nice BBQ, and for donating the proceeds back...
I've looked into this, and while expensive (so is everything on our cars), it seems to be the hot ticket for weight reduction. Our batteries weigh about 43 lbs., and the nano-phosphate lithium's weight 4-6 lbs., depending on their capacity. They can be deep-cycled and have a longer life than...
Hi Dan,
Good to hear from you. Looking forward to the club's DC Performance Dyno day coming up.
You're right, I do need to think about all of those other modifications, but since my "other car" has been seriously porked-out with performance/safety upgrades, I wanted to focus on the lighter...
The OEM seat rails weigh-in at 18 Lbs, but with the added hardware that came with my 2" kit, the net reduction was about 14 lbs. Since the amplifier sits under the passenger seat, the 2" lowering kit isn't going to work for me; however, Northwind Engineering's 1" kit has aluminum rails, so it...
I'm doing a few performance mods this month on my '08, with a secondary goal of removing a few pounds from the car. The following weight reduction has been relatively easy as byproduct of my upgrades, but I see further weight reductions being much more difficult to realize unless I touch areas...
The 5" metal box should remain where it is; however, if the seat is moved all the way up closest to the airbag, then a magnetic switch (a 2 inch black plastic box that's wired to the metal box) moves away from a metal plate on the seat rails, which I "presume" disengages the airbag for safety...
I just installed a 2-inch kit. It fit fine over the electronic box you reference (I don't have my service manual yet, so I didn't know what that was.) You might also need to consider this on a 1-inch kit...I needed to zip tie the seat proximity sensor to metal (a one inch black plastic sensor)...
I''ve never sent my oil in for an analysis, but I'm curious and probably will give it a try. I also run a 427 SC at 14lbs, and change my oil (Mobil-1 15-50w) every 3k miles, along w. my blower oil. I can justify the change interval, due to the added pressure/blow-by.
We all grew up having to...
I had to grind the corners off red powder coated Alcon calipers to get a set of HRE wheels to fit. I left the corners a little rough for the paint, and used caliper paint I purchased from Eastwood. Although I used 3-coats, I can see the paint coming off after about 2-years.
There have been...
Sched. B recommends an oil change every 3k miles for an '08. Is this unique to the '08 due to the vvt, as a result of changes in viscosity, or is this also recommended for the Gen-3 cars? Synthetic is usually good for 10k miles for a schedule B, and 15k miles for a schedule A on most other...
A near 40 percent increase in boost w. just a tune is great. Any idea what kind of increase people are seeing in their IATs with this mod? Also, have you considered modifying your A/C for added airflow?
I would have purchased a GT, but after sitting in one, there was no way in hell I was going...
After reading this thread, I purchased the MGW Shorty First Strike Knob and their lowered shifter bezel. Installed it today and I found it to be a significant improvement. The lowered knob is now a good height for me, and the 08's stock shift action is very smooth and...
Texas Venom did an excellent job installing clear mask on both of my cars yesterday. The Viper takes some time for the install, due to the multi-planed bumper, but the install looks perfect and it really blends into the GTS Blue paint, making it very difficult to see. It's installed in the...
I agree w. everyone that a used control arm would be fine, and something I would do in the circumstances. Although I haven't looked, I would expect that the lower arm would have a ball joint that should be inspected. Most people don't drive their cars much, so any used ball joint would likely be...
This should be the throwout bearing you are hearing, and it's normal. This was also common on certain years' TTC T56 transmissions - I have two cars w. a T56 that do this. I haven't driven my '08 much to notice this yet on the TR6060.
Texas Venom will be installing clearmask on two of my cars next weekend, incl. my new '08.
Like most, I've been masking only the front third of my hood at the track, and that has worked fine, so I think I'll elect this over clearmasking the entire hood.
