    ACR Top Speed?

At first, I was confused by the ACR's stated top speed of 177 to 180. According to the data given by SRT, I'd guesstimated it would be around 188. However, when you look at '08 dyno runs and the gearing in 5th, you see that the car isn't putting down a lot of power at 180 mph due to the low...

Why do we even track torque? (here I go again)

On chassis dynos, its the other way around. They can measure power and torque at the rear wheels, but have no way of measuring engine torque without an RPM pickup.

Why do we even track torque? (here I go again)

We do it because looking at a torque curve is an easy way to visualize how hard a car is pulling at each RPM point. Thats hard to do with a horsepower curve, unless you want to divide by the RPM in your head. If we had perfectly variable CVTs we wouldn't bother ever looking at torque. Someone...

    2008 Viper Dyno Test 542rwhp

Its interesting how these cars seem to dyno a significant amount less when hot. Do the Gen 3s do this as well? I suppose once the ECU is cracked, we'll be able to see exactly what is going on there. I suspect timing is being pulled at higher coolant temperatures? Can anyone guess if the "hot"...

How does torque make you faster?

Torque doesn't make you faster, all that matters is power. However, peak power doesn't really affect anything, its all power over the car's rev range. Torque almost always peaks lower in the RPM range than horsepower. If you take two similar cars with similar motors, one making 200 hp and 160...

08 Viper with headers and 150 shot of nitrous!!

Are the factory pistons really that bad? Plenty of import motors able to take 2+ bar of boost have cast pistons. You should be able to achieve around 733whp with 5 or 6 psi of boost. Don't paxton setups run more than that? Edit: It seems the SRT8 shares the '08s pistons, so we should be able...

    Viper Navigation Question

Can anyone estimate the weight added by the navigation option?

    '08 Weight Reduction

Have you seen that stuff in person? I've always wondered about the quality of it.

    '08 Weight Reduction

Aha! More potential weight reduction. I don't suppose it weighs very much? I had planned to get an aftermarket head unit, some of which I think can bypass the factory amp. If you have harnesses, you could remove the factory airbag system too. Anyone know how much the stock seats weigh? How...

    '08 Weight Reduction

Thanks for the info; I'm already planning out some weight reduction on the '08 I have a deposit on. You could always get a lightweight battery, which is usually an easy way to save 20-30 lbs. Underhood insulation can go, and SRT reported an increase in front downforce with the hood vent...

Car & Driver does it again.......

I wouldn't get so worked up over subjective ratings. The mag is, IMO, worth it for the objective numbers alone. Look at it this way: Both the ACR and GT2 are on Pilot Sport Cups, yet the ACR is four seconds faster! Thats an insane advantage for a car less than half the price of the Porsche. Its...

Comparison: 2008 Viper Convertible with and without Belanger Exhaust System

Is it the headers that account for most of the noise increase, or the mufflers? Are the Belanger mufflers larger diameter than stock? Assuming the stockers aren't restrictive, does anyone use them with long-tubes? I plan on going catless when my '08 gets here, assuming there will be a...

The 08 ACR Is A Bargain Compared To This

I would bet a lot of money the ACR is faster around most any track. The ZR1 will certainly have it in a straight line, but the rear-biased weight distribution and shorter wheelbase of the Viper should help it put down the power better. Magazine comparisons aren't going to mean much because the...

Good Article on Prepping ACR for Track Use . . .

This (along with recommended shock settings and ride heights) is also stated in the ACR Owner's Manual. Do racers with older models install diff coolers? Is it necissary if you use good synthetic fluid? Actually, thats another thing I've been wondering, what sort of fluids does Dodge put in...

Lee post pics of that new ACR

Lee, Do you have any pics of your driveway? I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to get an ACR up mine. Also, did you mess with the ride height at all? Any idea what the clearance of the front splitter (sans extension) is?
