    If you were to switch to an auto trans and about a 3500 RPM convertor, the dana 44 would probably live a long happy life. Stick shifts (and trans brakes) are extremely hard on diffs.

    Don't you mean you have infinite resistance? No resistance (A zero ohms reading on the VOM) would be equal to a dead short to ground. Unplugging the gage would be the same as an open (or infinite resistance)in the circuit.
