08 Coupe rear hatch

Does the key FOB release the rear hatch? A friend with an 08 Coupe says his does not open when he pushes the button of the key fob marked as a rear trunck/hatch. The lights blink but thats it? Cannot remember if it worked on my 06 Coupe. His dealer told him its not supposed to ?!?

there is a soft trunk release under the license plate area. You unlock from the remote but use the soft trunk release to actually open it.

The convertibles still pop open but the latch that they use on the coupes and verts were never meant to lift a heavy hatch so they installed the rubber release. There was so many replaced latches that did not need to be that this was the needed change to help the latch.
