I can't comment on the compression of the chapter 3 Viper, but I can tell you that I know several people running motors with 12:1 and 12.5:1 on 92 California gas and they are fine.

I don't see the problem. A lot of motorcycles have 11:1 compression and they run on 91 upwards. They red line upwards of 10000 rpm.

Ron,

Union 76 a few blocks from me in Redondo sells 100 octane unleaded. It's only $4.50/gallon, last time I checked. Pretty cool looking, too: the gas is blue!

My 69' 427/435 Corvette has 11:1 compression and will NOT run on pump gas. I have to buy 114 racing gas and mix it 5 to 1 the only other alternative is to retard the timing and lose performance. Thanks for the tip Venom, every time I need gas I'll drive down there and fill up for $100.

You racing the 24th Venom?

EFI and aluminum heads should allow 11:1 compression with a 92 octane pump gas.

I wonder if the 100 unleaded is actually 100 low lead. Aviation 100 octane is low lead and it is blue. They make it blue so the person filling up planes know that it is 100 LL and not jet fuel which is clear.

Geoff, I suppose it could be, but the guys at the station tell me that it is unleaded racing gas refined specially for cars. Of course that could be a load of BS!

All I know is you can see some pretty cool cars and sport bikes filling up at the 100 octane pump at that station!

SoCal, I'll let you know on the 24th. I need to coordinate schedules between Viper Days, (dare-I-say-it...) Super Chevy, and Famoso....So much car stuff to do, so little time!

Motor Trend says the compression ratio on the Chapter 3 Vipers will be 11:1. How can this be? As far as I know 11:1 will not run on the 92 octane here in California. Any comments.
