A Dodge Dealer offering to sell new/untitled Red 2004 SRT-10 at invoice ($78,018) - opinions? I would think that very soon, if not already, some dealers may be selling 2006s at invoice (or below?) and if so, why would one buy a 2004 at invoice price? If that makes sense please give me some feedback and/or recommendations on what a fair price might be.

Thanks in advance...Bob Z. (former '94, '95, & '97 RT/10 Owner - VA/MD VCA)

That is way high for the 2004-July of this year I paid 76000 for a 2006 coupe with stripes and 5 spokes.

That is a joke. I paid less than that on an 06 vert with 5 spokes. Call bill pemerbton for a smoking deal. The dealership who quoted that is insane! :2tu:

There was a Red 04 new with 200 miles at my locla dealer. They were going to sell to me for 64k. I went with the Copperhead 2005 instead after finding numerous chops on the 04. I had been sitting at the lot for 2 years.

No one should pay MSRP for a new viper roadster as they are a dime a dozen. Coupes are another matter. There are a ton of 2006 roadsters out there and dealers are discounting them. Hell I bought my 2003 brand new for $71,900.00 and they threw in a tonneau cover, trunk liner, car cover, and floor mats for free. Shop around!.

I talked to the dealer again and they offered to sell it for $67,970. Still high based on other postings such as MikeR who said a like car was offered to him for $64k. I wonder how low they could go because they had to pay X amount for it to begin with, right?

See, just like that they knocked off basically $11,000. But still I wouldnt pay 67K for a 04, you can get 05's for that price. 60-62K is probably about right for that 04, in my opinion. Also , if you have not personally seen it, go look at it. Like the "new" 04 I looked at, it was beat up. Check it out for lot damage. Its hard to not have damage after sitting on a lot for 2 years.

I understand that there is about a 10% markup on vipers unlike other DC cars and trucks. take the MSRP X.9 to get dealer price. MSRP does not include shipping or the gas tax. The dealer also get back what is called dealer holdback plus whatever incentives are offered at the time. Dealer holdback used to be 3% of the MSRP. Do the math and make an offer.

Dealer cost for 2006 viper:

Holdback for all cars; http://www.car-prices-costs.com/dealercost.html

You might also want to read this link on how to get the best prices:

Also if you or a member of your family works for Dc or any of the makes of cars and trucks they sell, you can buy a viper for $75.00 over cost.

Thanks all. Based on the last post regarding prices, holdback, etc. the price of $67,970. seems about right. However, I agree with others that the price is still high for car who's value will drop like a rock as soon as it rolls off the lot.

Odds are they will have it for a while since they probably don't want to take a loss on it but sooner or later someone may buy it or it will become a center piece of the showroom!

Most of those who buy Vipers DO NOT call around, like we do here. They see it and want it! A few grand off sticker and they feel like they stole it.

The last couple of local ones that have sold were in the $75k range.

I bought a new '05 back in Feburary and paid 72,500. Today I would expect an '05 to be about 5,000 less, and an '04 even less than that. The moment you own it, it's an '04, not new. If you went to sell it, people would consider it 3 years old, not new, the fact you just bought it wouldn't make any difference.

The dealer has had their money ******* in this car for a couple years now and probably REALLY want to move it. I would offer them more like 58 to 59, but even at 65 it would be a nice car. There really isn't any difference between an '04 and an '06, other than the '04 has a 7/70 warranty and the newer ones 3/36. Save some money by getting the '04, and put the difference into some performance goodies.

If you punch up an '04 at Kelley Blue Book (kbb.com) the high retail value comes up at $71k. The trade-in value is $60k which means that for you to get a really good deal you should pay no more than $63-$65 at the absolute most. In just a couple of months the '08s will start rolling off the lines which means that an '04 will be four model years old (even though they skipped '07 it still will be essentially a 4-year old model).

If it were me I would wait and at least see what the '08s are going to be listed at. If nothing else, waiting until January when '08 production starts as the dealer should really be in the mood to deal - "Gotta clear the '04s, the '08s are on the way!!"

I actually think that price is right on. Have you decided how you'll spend the $12k in the briefcase in the trunk?

Your dealer is stuck with the '04. He has had it on his lot for almost 3 years now (probably with an "adjusted market value" sticker for an extra 10Gs). His greed has caught up with him and now the car is costing him. This should give you an advantage in price negotiations. Be patient and persistent once you know what you are willing to pay and you will be rewarded.

Thanks to all for your posts here and directly. I'll say that it feels good to be back in the club! And I even get to keep my original VCA#...I've owned '94, '95, & '97 RT10s in the past and this is my first SRT10, a Red 2005 that I am buying new on MSO (pick it up on 11/10), full factory warranty, etc. I can't wait to tell the dealer with the new 2004 I originally asked about in the beginning of this thread.

I know people will ask so this is the deal: my 2006 MB SLK350 (bought new 2/06) with 2300 miles plus $20k. The dealer with the new 2004 said if I wanted his car I would need to give him my car plus $33k!

I look forward to interacting with the Florida owners (I live in Palm Coast) - hope you like burnouts.

Kelly Blue Book, NADA, etc. does not pertain to these type of vehicles. These are specialty cars, not Accords or Camrys. Price is solely dependent on the economic factors (current market). Pricing guides are simply that: GUIDES!!!

"Gotta clear the '04s the '08s are on the way"? When was the last time you saw a new Viper in a local television ad???

Congrats on the new Viper. Enjoy. Also, my Mother and Father in law live in Hammock Dunes. Maybe I'll see you around.
