We have a 2008 on order, black. Since they are not building black yet we are considering an ACR version, but have several questions.

1. Can it be in solid color or with stipes like the normal Viper, if you can call any Viper a normal car?

2. Will the ground effects on the front hit speed bumps etc.

3. Can the wing be taken off to get less attention?

4. Can you get regular rather than black wheels?

5. Once you make these changes is thera any reason to get the ACR?

We go to the track quite a bit but also want to drive on the street and go up driveways. We are pretty sure we want the regular version but these questions keep coming back to my mind. Thanks

Here's my understanding of things but youmay want to have someone like Y2K5SRT chime in here:

1. Yes, the ACR is available in monotone colors only or with a regular dual stripe down the middle. If you look at the post at the top of this forum announcing the ACR there is a post displaying the color and stripe options;

2. The front splitter is actually comprised of 3 sections. There are two outside sections that are fixed to the car located below the part of the front fascia where the fog lamps used to be. There is a third, removeable section that the owner bolts between these two sections that increases downforce but also decreases the clearance of the car. Again, however, the folks at SRT designed this to be removeable for use on the street/driveways etc.

3. I am not entirely sure on this but I do not believe the rear wing is readily removeable from the car like the middle part of the front splitter is.

4. This is not a regular option that you can select from Dodge but you can always buy whatever rims you like and have your dealer retrofit them. This will cost extra $ of course. (On a purely selfish note, if you do go with the ACR and want to replace the stock black rims I would love to talk to you about buying the black rims and the tires from you when you car arrives.) I would also note that the Sidewinder rims are functional: they save a considerable anount of weight over the stock rims on the 2008.

5. That of course is your decision but to me it seems that once you remove the aero components and the Sidewinder rims you have removed some of the core aesthetic and weight saving features of the ACR.

Enjoy your decision.

It sounds to me you need the stock car.ACR not for you.

I second that. In fact, I strongly second that.

The ACR is for people that know they want the ACR.

For that matter the Viper is for people that know they want a Viper too, even though that market has been somewhat contaminated which is why there is a ACR.

I don't think it's that big of a deal to not want the ACR with crazy paint and black wheels. Even with mono-tone paint and non-black wheels it will still kick ass on the track.

Vincy, seems like a couple of weeks ago you were asking opinions of a '06 S/C or a new 08. I remember you're a porsche guy who's never owned a viper. Here's my advise, if $'s are no object for you, go get an ACR and spend more $'s to make it the way you want, i.e. buy other wheels, buy another rear hatch that doesn't have a wing, buy a seperate stock nose, etc. Or, get a non ACR, Or, my best advise to you; find a clean black '06 for mid 60's, get a set of moton's or kw's, upgrade to michelin ps2's. then drive the car, track it, etc. If you like the car, great, go to the next level, get an '08 and if you don't get a ACR, put the shock/springs on your '08. My experience is that most porsche folks last 1 year or less in viper than go back. And they don't go back to go faster at the track!

Yes I was asking about the S/C 06 but decided against it because the 08 should be better on the track. I'm keeping the Porsche as a daily driver, its great for that.

About getting rid of the Viper I don't think that will happen. I have been happy driving a heavily modded Lingenfelter and even driving a Doug Rippie track car on the street. I like extreme cars.

Thanks, I almost feel like a wimp for not wanting the ACR. Actually the wife wants the ACR buut she has less common sense than me about cars. She already wants to go for the headers on the 08.
