Well, I guess it had to happen eventually.
Don't get me wrong, it's still going to rock, but it batter have an "off" button!

Most vehicles seem to have the ability to disable "traction control". I am sure Ralph will be pushing hard to ensure the Viper has that extra button.

My expierence so far with new cars leads me to think they should label it "Traction
Control: 'On'/'Off (Sorta.)'"

As I remember talking with the engineers at VOI it would be capable of being disabled!

Smart of Dodge to use the underpowered red cars in the snow, as NO amount of computer trickery could reign in a Yellow beast.

So how are the trackers gonna know if the competition has their nanny on or off?
The ones with it on will be in the rear view mirror.

I remember Ralph listening to (REALLY listening) to owners at Viper events regarding the traction control issue.
We all said "OFF means OFF"; not "OFF means OFF UNTIL THE COMPUTER SENSES AN EMERGENCY THEN COMES BACK ON BY ITSELF (see also: Mercedes-Benz).
We've ingrained it into his head pretty thoroughly. I'm pretty sure he and the rest of Team Viper understand. :)

Just makes our old Vipers without all the nanny state controls more exclusive, and more desireable in the future...Yeah you can probably turn it off, but the default is likely going to be on, and I believe some of these systems still retain some control over the vehicle even when you think you have it turned off.

I had a Z06 with Active Stability Control on it, and when I turned it off but brought the car up to it's limits, it felt like it was still being reigned in by some unknown force. Maybe I'm crazy? :dunno:

New Viper will be hot for sure, and I would love one, but the possibility of no V10 really bothers me. It's just more diluting of the Viper brand, to a car that conforms to the rules, which to me is not what the Viper is all about..

Depending on your year of Z06 you can select the button once to turn one portion off or hold the button down for 3 seconds to fully disengage the system.

Instead of a button can they make a chip that when removed disables all nannies, or better yet disintegrates them? And if they make the chip out of recyclable material we can say we are removing the nannies to save the planet for the children.

This comment was aimed at those who just drive their Viper for a short time; short thrill rides, easy Sunday drives of say a half hour, or just for the track. All only in perfect weather. They aren't concerned about long drive capability and/or bad weather capability. Those that want some improvement in these areas get chewed out by the purists (one of these purists keep telling them to buy a Vette even though a better Viper is wanted, not a Vette). :D

all the SRT cars that are out today have the ability to completely turn the traction control off. if you push the button the traction icon will light up on the dash and that somewhat disables the traction control. BUT if you hold the button down for 10 seconds it will completely shut it off and it will say on the dash ESP OFF alot of people are unaware of that feature.

Try that, then really get the car out of shape. Nannies will kick back on. A lot of people are unaware of that feature also.

Uhuh.. I bet the engineers have to implement programming that prevents the car from getting started in the first place when you use those cutters for the purpose of shutting the stability system down :(

Well they now have 4wd ferrari's, lambo's, and porsches so why not vipers. Next will be 4wd vet's heeeeeeeeeeee

Only with the FF has Ferrari started using their new 4RM system. It also stays in RWD mode unless put into 4RM.
Lamborghini has had AWD since Diablo and with a few RWD optional cars. These are manufacturers, then you list a Viper and a Vette... doesn't make sense. Viper is hidden under this blanket, it is called Dodge. If someone buys a Porsche, they have a Porsche, doesn't matter what it is, "Oooh Aaahh". Dodge can give you a mind controlled shifting/gas/brake, cures cancer after you drive it Viper. Not many will care, it is a Dodge, an American car, not an exotic.

I drove my GTS through some snow, and pouring rain for 7 hours on my 1000 mile drive home. This was on PS1's with flat spotted front tires, wasn't too bad.. :dunno: Did a lot of driving in the snow with my 99 TransAm 400/400 to the wheels with no traction control. Sure I can't race, but I really doubt you will see many Lambo/Ferrari's gunning it through the snow/rain.

I think the traction control system should be like on some Ferrari's (and maybe other manufacturers) where there is a knob on the steering wheel (or could be installed in the dash, I am not picky) that has several settings including severe weather, normal driving, sport, race, and OFF That way you can have the best of all worlds. I drive my Viper every day (well except for the next couple of weeks while its apart getting some upgrades) and while I don't have a problem at all with there being no nannies, when I drive the car in severe rain it would be nice to know there are some nannies there to assist me. Now with that being said, am I going to not drive my Viper in the rain because it doesn't have nannies, of course not. But if they are going to be there per federal mandate, you can bet if I get a new Viper the nannies would only be on during bad weather.
