I am considering the purchase of a 2nd VIper or a ZO6. I really like the Sapphire Blue Rt/10 but think maybe the Zo6 would add some excitement as well as comfort? Any suggestions??? anyone have 2 Vipers or a vette and a Viper. It would be nice to have one that is not a Super car for my wife to drive.

I think you can't go wrong with either of them, but if your wife is like mine, the power of the beast scares the hell out of her. A more tamed beast like the Z06 is more to her liking and less intimidating.

I agree. My better half sported around town in my C5 for a few years and really enjoyed the car. The creature comforts do it for most.

If yours is like mine, the RT is just too loud to be on the cell phone heading to the salon.

Plus having a ZO6 would only help me appreciate my Viper all the more. IMO.

However, saying no to the opportunity to put a pair of snakes in the garage takes a better man than me.

Some advice if it were YOU that were going to drive/own the car. Don't fall down to the Z06. A Viper owner to which I'm very familiar with (Lee00blacksilverGTS), has a familiar story. He first bought his GTS (500 hp), a couple months later, an opportunty came through to buy a '01 M5. After some good months of ownership, he sold the M5. He said it was a good time to sell with the market and money he could get out of the car. The other reason he sold the 400 hp, world's fastest sedan was that it felt slow and bland compared to the GTS. He could just keep his '92 Infinity Q45, which he loved dearly, as a daily driver. This also free'd up a space in the garage to bring his '69 Stingray back home. In short term words, why have 2 performance cars when one will feel like it has no/little character compared to the other?

Now, if it is mainly for you wife to drive, especially everyday, get her the Vette. According to you, she doesn't want the "grizzly den" Viper everyday. The Z will be a friendlier everyday/long commute sports car. I'm not being sexist in any way with this post. Just seems from what you're telling us that she'd rather have the Vette.

If I was going to buy a vette it would have to be a convertible but you could buy an SRT-10. I don't think I would buy 2 hardtops only cars. Good luck! I don't think you will go wrong with either.

If I was in your position, I would get the RT/10. I tell you what, I think it's pretty cool seeing a woman driving a viper! It's like seeing a girl driving a jeep! I luv it!

What does SHE want?

I would have no desire to have a Z06 in the garage. The Viper takes more work to drive and you have to pay more attention to things like speed bumps and approach angles, but there is no reason to think that it can be a rewarding drive for her, too. There's nothing like the Viper. (And it doesn't have to be an 800 HP supercharged beast either, Dr. ;) )

The SRT is easier to live with everyday because of the approach angles and the incredible brakes (compared to my 1996 GTS) but an ABS car should be a reasonable daily driver. The SRT does give you a convertible and it seems to be making more inroads with the ladies thanthe Gen I and Gen II cars. And just an FYI - as a general rule - women are smoother drivers when first starting out with the Viper - something that gets handsomely rewarded.

You may be surprised how much she enjoys HER Viper.

I agree, if it's primarily her car, let her decide. It really depends on her personality and what she wants out of the car. Is it important for her to have the best handling/fastest production car made in the US? Or, does she want a very comfortable, low key, but respectable mild mannered z06?

I don't think you can go wrong either way. The only problem I see is she may not be satisfied with the z06 when comparing it against your viper. (which means you will be driving the z06!) :)

If you want to put a lot of miles on it, get a z06, if you (she) won't drive it much, get a viper. If you are like me, you just won't want to rack up the mileage on such a special car. I am looking for a c5 now as my daily driver/****** car to replace my miata as I need a bit more power. I can never drive my viper around too much because I'm too cautious with it and I don't want to leave it in the sun too long, get scratches, etc... Z06 you won't have to worry about that stuff as much.

I'll say this much - my wife drove her '01 GTS Daytona only occasionally... too flashy, too unrefined, too loud. She drives her '03 SRT/10 -all the time-, and loves it. So do I.

I'd get the SRT.

I've owned over 30 Corvettes, and I'll limit my discussion to what you really asked. Viper vs. Vette for second car, perhaps a little tamer would be better, something the above posters may not have considered, your Viper is a DLM car, about as untame as they come! Does your wife drive the DLM car? If so the Z06 is a daily driver slowmobile to her, no problem, and a good choice for both of you. If she does not participate in the DLM experience, then we have to start from a different standpoint....First as Janni mentions, what does she want? An, ahem, important thing to consider. After that it's down to how comfortable do you want to be in this second car.....AND, how much do you want to worry about it parked somewhere. I'm afraid I could no more leave a second Viper parked out of my sight than I could the one I have now. So my opinion would lean to the Vette, but it woud not be a Z06, it would be a convertible C5 for the sake of something different, heck even a coupe c5 would give you as open air an effect as an RT10.

The car would be for both of us! Nothing will compare to my DLM car. I'm just looking for something that either of us could drive and be happy. She really doesn;'t care, actually she doesn;t even car to drive but I have two kids and I think it would be cool for one with a cool mom and the other with a cool dad.

I need to test drive the Z06.

Been there done that..... Get an RT/10
IF you have to have something different........
Since you have a coupe in the GTS the vert might be nice.
IF and WHEN you do buy, buy it right. Year end closeout pricing you should see 4-7k off msrp easy, and or great GMAC financing. Vette prices fall like a rock, hense my advice to get a strong deal (I did and didn't get burned too bad when I sold mine after having it for close to 2 years). Rick Daniel at Maxie Price is one of the powerhouse Vette sellers, he is a supporting dealer on z06vette.com
Good luck!!

It is cool to see a woman driving a Viper. I remember when Gus Strakes' wife started driving out of the Crab Feast when he still had his '96 RT/10 when he bought his '99.

Uh oh, I think Adam has a fetish with girls and Jeeps. just kidding

Buy a good used Viper! It should hold it's value a lot better. It is a classic. I think we will look back and at these times and wish we'd bought more of them, like when used AC cobras were cheap.

z06 is a hell of alot more fun to drive. Whoever thinks that car is tame has no clue. viper is more fun after 4th gear but the first 3 on a z06 is a blast. id rather run from cops in the 06 then a viper
