650hp for the 2013 Mustang GT500?!

Last head to head comparison i saw was the 5xx hp gt500 vs the the 510 hp gen 3 srt. The gen 3 trapped about 121 and the gt500 around 116 in the quartermile.

It was pretty lop sided because the viper was 33xx pounds and the gt500 was 39xx pounds.

So I dont think gen 4 and up owners have anthing to worry about.

More HP than a ZR1 for 1/2 the price. Expect big markups initially. I'd still rather have a Gen4 Viper. I'm a little surprised they would announce this so early as it's going to kill sales on the current 2012 550hp GT500.

The support staff told us no gas guzzler tax and should come in around 56-59 K. Not bad for 650 HP.

My biggest pet peeve is the interior looks soooo cheap and single piston rear brake with the big 6 piston up front.

The Shelby has come quite a long way since the 500hp variant. The block is now much lighter, aerodynamics improved, and it should do about 11.5 in the 1/4. The ZL1 Camaro is said from GM to do 12.1 in the 1/4 and that is with 580hp and a few hundred pounds heavier than the Shelby. Make no mistake about it, this Shelby is the true successor to the 2003/2004 cobra. When that debuted with an underrated 390hp motor in 2002, it was the most bang for your buck muscle car for only 35k. Though this is much more expensive, it is no doubt a 10 second car with very little modding. Anyone dismissing this as "just another mustang" just sadly doesn't get good cars. It didn't take much to make an 03 a world class performer and this car will be even greater.

Ok heres the link. Last time the 510 hp viper went 12.1 at 121 and the 500 hp gt500 went 12.7 at 114.

7 mph in the quarter is huuuuuge. Woulda needed another 100 hp to match the gen3 so no way 650 hp will match the gen4.

But.... The c6z06 guys are gonna have some stiff competition

Thats amazing power for the money. And Ford just killed the sales on the 2011 & 12's. Who in their right mind would now by an 2011 or 12 GT500 knowing what Ford has coming out spring of 2012. Why not order the much improved 2013. I've always been a fan of the mustang and have owned several and one cobra that i modded quite heaily. But at the end of the day, it was still a mustang. And you can make a v6 look like a shelby with some money. But a Viper is a Viper. And its not always about power. Looks and styling go a long ways. And if the mustang can run 11.5 compared to my 12sec, good for it. Both are still fast cars. But it also has a lot to do with driver. And if that still fails i'll get out me gixxer. :D

Problem is, its still a mustang. And it weighs as much as a truck. and i dont believe the ZO6 guys have anything to worry about with this car catching up. I wouldn't drop 70k for a stang, and after taxes your pretty close.

Wikkid. I disagree. The shelby and the z06 are rivals. The z06 is a lil more upperclass than the shelby just like the viper is a lil more uperclass than te z06.


The 60k shelby will never be able to jump up two classes and be a competitor with the 90k viper. Ones a one off desighned very rare semi exotic supercar. The other is a mass produced v6 v8 v8 supercharged variant american muscle mustang.

However a 60k mustang will compete with tne 78k vette.

Z06 ruuning mid 11s and shelby runnin mid 11s for 18k less is gonna be ******* the z06 since it dosent have any rarity or exoticness to fall back on and is just the top vette like the shelby is the top mustang
