92 Viper Values & Dash Resources?

Hi,

I'm new here, very nice website! I have been a Viper fan ever since the first concept was unvieled. A friend of mine bought a new 92, he also used his "golden ticket" as an original 92 owner to buy 96 GTS to go with it. He has kept the car in climate controlled storage all these years accumulating only 800 pampered original owner miles. He's recently decided to sell the car and asked me what they are bringing these days? I relly don't know and was hoping for some input from the Viper crowd?

Also, while in storage the felt/flocking on the plasctic dash has deteriorated, it's still there but the slightest touch with your fingers rubs the felt off, seems like it was a poorley engineered product when new since the car has been so well cared for and never left out in the sun. Is there a source for a correct/flocked original style dash cover?

Check the search here -pop in 92Viper or anything similar.
Check Ebay for pricing.
If you decide you want to list it here it's only $30 for a classified ad.

I know of one in IL that fits that mileage description - is that where this one is?

I may be mistaken but I think there may still be a few original dashes left out there for gen 1s... Check with JonB (PartsRack.com) or Chuck Tator (Tator's Garage). Maybe one of them can help point you in the right direction.

The original paint coating on the dash is no longer available. Your friend may be better off leaving it "as is" unless it's really bad. As for it's value, I can't comment.

for the 92 I'd say you would normally be able to get about $45k but in this economy even with the low miles you'd either end up selling it for about $35k or sitting on it for a long time waiting for the right buyer.

There was a '92 on the market last summer that had fewer miles, original owner and if I recall correctly it had never been titled. He was looking for around 50k and ended up taking it off the market.

A '92 Viper is like a '53 Vette - it is an inferior car but it is significant. It may be some time before these cars start to realize their potential value.

If I had to guess, I would say low 40's. But I would also be concerned about how well the car was maintained while it wasn't being driven. '92s have their own issues and these could be compounded by not maintaining the car while it was in storage. There are a few guys on the site that can tell you about a low mile '96 that was on the market this winter that had been very neglected while it wasn't being driven and resulted in a nearly undriveable car.
