My 94'is dying out maybe once every three times I press in on the clutch and let it go back to down to idol speed. Should I get a new battery? I just got the car about a month and a half ago and I was told that the battery is 1 year old. The car also seems to be idoling very low at around 400 rpm. on another note, is there a trick to filling the gas tank? when I'm pumping gas, it keeps clicking off. any help would be great.

thank you in advance !

Battery has nothing to do with that.

Make sure one of the cylinders is not misfiring.

I would also start with a TB sync. Do you have any "bucking" issues on accelleration?

I do have more bucking than I care to have. I have done the tb sync and it didn't solve my issues. any other ideas? how can I find out if one of the cilinders is misfireing?

It isn't a misfiring cylinder. It is a common problem that many have had including me. I've forgoten now what exactly the fix is but I believe the computer need to be reset. I'll look through some of my old posts to find out.

Snake bite is correct. I had this problem on my 96, disconnet either the battery at the post under the hood or the three computer harness connections(computer is easier of the two) for about 15 minutes. Then re-connect and go for a drive. Report back on your results :2tu:

I took the battery wire for 15 min to reset the pcm and the car started right up ! It was idoling at 600 rpm. I immediatly went for a drive and the motor didn't die out once. After driving for a while though, the car went back to idoling at about 400 rpm or so and it almost died out a few times but always came back. Any other ideas what else it could be? The longer I was driveing it, it started to go back to the way it was before the reset.

Another vote for Chuck!

As far as fueling, pull the nozzle out a little bit. The automatic shutoff on the pump will engage if you stick the nozzle all the way in.

you need to put a scan tool and watch the outputs. Could be alot of things, air idle control is what I suspect. Chuck is the man, but with out looking at the values no one can tell you what the issue is. As far as pumping the gas, turn the pump handle upside down and dont give it full throttle, R/T's have a horizontal path to the tank and a fast pump will think that the tank is full because of the back pressure.

Agreed. Had to to it at least a 1,000 times!

Scott, Spend 30 minutes doing this first. Exact same problem on my 95 and this fixed it.

Gen1 running rough at idle, almost stalling at times when pressing clutch in.
Removed tubes. Squirted STP Throttle body cleaner on white rag and cleaned everything. Opened TB up and spent serious time wiping everything inside before nothing more would come off on white rag. Even used toothbrush on edges.
Removed IAC following Service Manual, only two screws. Took unit apart with two screws. Cleaned everything again and amazing how dirty it was.
Removed oxygen sensor from airbox and wiped with dry clean cloth.
Synched up TB's so left side just leads.
Works perfect!
