Good day, my 97 gts sits (inside) for long times as I work offshore. Last time home it would not start, has fuel, bought brand new Die-hard and cranks strongly. No evidence of spark. removed and cleaned fuses and as many relays as I could find. Tried resetting alarm multiple times including triggering horn and disconnecting the main battery overnight . At one point the dash alarm activation light was flashing when was cranking thus suspect the alarm somehow may be the problem but that condition was not always observed. Otherwise the key seems to arms and disarms as per normal. No other unusual displays on the dash. I note the car has been frequently jump started using the jumper terminal near the engine with a charger because of low battery but try to carefully follow the Pos/Neg connection procedure to avoid any power surges. Any ideas as the next step is to get it towed to Dodge. thanks glenng

Use a scan tool and see if any codes are set. Also look at the ASD relay.

When you turn the key to the "on" position, do you hear the fuel pump prime? Also, as you stand near the car, hold both buttons on the key fob at the same time until it chirps. Car may be in alarm mode after changing out the battery.

Thanks for the replies. Cannot hear the fuel pump. Had previously tried holding both key buttons at the same time till it chips with no success. I should also mention that the old battery was completely dead and since I am gone for long periods, I know the processor memory erases the driving record. That frequently happens becasue I am away alot. So when time comes for the vehicle inspection I need to drive it about 75 miles to allow the processer to collect enough information to register on the emissions test. But this is the first time it would not start. I noted another whos viper would not start suggested removing the pos battery terminal and touch it to ground. Perhaps that is to clear the alarm. I agree that it sounds like it is stuck in the alarm mode.

The EEM is diagnosed by a DRB-III at a Dodge dealer.

The EEM does NOT display any diagnostic trouble codes.

The dealer has to test all the switch functions thru the DRB, but I do not believe that the EEM is your issue.

I suspect the car was locked and alarmed when the battery went totally dead. This makes the car think it was being stolen by a removed battery. When you charged the battery, it shouted THIEF and probably HONKED for 2.5 minutes? And the parking lites flashed for 15?

Now that the Viper has a fresh die-hard, Does the FOB have Fresh batteries? If so, and 18+ minutes have passed, you 'should' be able to hold down both buttons firmly for several/many/30+ seconds, nearby the car, and get a 2-honk reset. You may have to try several times.

And you may have to disconnect and reconnect the new battery + terminal and sart the process again.

Unfortunately, the 96.5 and 1997 do NOT have an alarm reset feature that all later Vipers do. There is a 1-wire jumper-ground that resets the alram, and I cannot locate the position-color-wire info at this moment..but there is one!
