I am repairing, for a friend, a Viper that sat for at least 6 years. My friend inherited the car from a former Viper Club of America member who died recently. I took this on as a favor and it has turned out to be a nightmare. Rats pissed and crapped everywhere in the car and ate wiring and fuel line. The fuel pump was seized up and shorted, the fuel pump relay inoperative, the fusible link for the fuel pump blown, the seals are all shot and on and on. The filter that is below the fuel pump has turned into mush. I realized this when the new pump wouldn't pump anything after spending all day installing it and I took the fuel tank back out to see why. Turned out that the brand new Airtex pump is faulty(won't turn and draws 40+ amps) but when I was trouble shooting I noticed the filter on the pickup side of the pump was shot. It looked OK when it was dry but with fuel on it it looks like a soaked newspaper. I tore all the filter media out and will use it this way if I have to but I'd rather get a new one as long as I have it all apart. Any ideas on where I can get a new filter and seal that connects it to the pump? Remember this is not the filter in the fuel line. This one is under the pump inside of the fuel tank.
