Good to see someone tracking an ACR. Especially in a monsoon. Can you make any comparisons to other cars you've tracked or other cars at the track regarding lap times? Just trying to get an idea of the relative track performance of the car. Thanks.
This will make me sound like an a$$ but here I go.
Over the years I've had the great privilege of driving almost every cool car on the track. Enzo, F40, Maseratti MC-12, McLaren SLR, Murci, Gallardo, F430, 360, 355, 550, 599.... Porsche... You get the point.
In 2003 I drove an SRT-10 Vert and loved it. At the time I had just sold my NSX so I was looking for a car. I ended up with a 2004 Vert. LOVE IT!
Of all the cars I've driven the Viper was one of the most fun. Not the fastest (but certainly fast) but easily the most fun. Very predictable, awesome torque and if I wadded it up I wouldn't have to kill myself. I could get it serviced locally instead of some guru that takes appointments 4 years in advance. Parts were reasonable, etc. etc.
But the ACR is so much more than my Vert.
The ACR is the fastest laps I've ever done at my local track. I'm under the track record for a street legal car (I hold that record in a Heffner 1000hp Gallardo - see this months issue of Modified Luxury Exotics, I'm the test driver) but have yet to get independant timing. This was before I lowered the car and made the adjustments.
The ACR is awesome. The MC-12 is awesome and the Enzo is cool but I'd save the dollars and get a 430 Scud instead of an Enzo (almost exactly the same speed but both out of my price range).
The ACR has the best motor of any car I've driven. It has great turn in and stick. Maybe the weakest bit is the brakes. It just can't compete with the mid and rear engine cars on the brakes.
One more thing. I like the shifter but it's not nearly as fast as a floppy paddle car. I prefer the stick - it's more fun - but the paddles are way faster.
One more thing. I'd trade my ACR for an F40 in a heartbeat. I really, really like that car.
