Here are the top 10 reasons why I will (and you should) trade immediately for a C6:

10. Riding apparel: Bermuda shorts and Hawaiian shirt

9. No need to go to E-Bay, each Chevy dealer will always have 40-60 in stock.

8. An option list that contains cool parts names like Z51 or R.P.G.

7. An engine with its heritage begun in 1955; like taking grandma to the prom

6. Being able to hear your hair grow rather than having your ears bleed

5. Three gears: Drive, Reverse and Park

4. Having a domestic partner rather than a spouse

3. Having swell guys like Bruce Springsteen agree with you

2. There is no abbreviation for the word “Viper”

1. Being able to cheer “Yay, what a cool new look” while thinking “Nutz, they brought back the Camaro.”

One thing will become quite apparent. People with the C6 will anticipate performance and attention that will not readily occur. A Corvette was not meant to look like a Firebird. Chevrolet had a lot of time to design the C6; there was an interesting hour special on DirecTV about the design team leader (from Cadillac) who seemed like a great guy. I especially liked the guy who makes his living from spy photographs. A spy photograph of the new Corvette is as interesting as Pamela Lee in a trenchcoat.

Whew! I know I am in the gym daily so that I shall never look like the back end of a C6...was concerned I was failing.

I was most struck by how underwhelming the C6 was. I drove a C5 and a `99 ACR within an hour of each other. What a difference; a pony versus a thoroughbred.

I drove a `67 427/435 roadster once. It was truly a great experience. Chevrolet has come a long way from that, and I imagine their evolution has met the needs of many people. I still thing an all black C5 roadster is a nice looking car.

It is just not the correct car for me.

Similarly, I think the Z06 sounds great...the roof line? Not so much.

has anyone run into a c6 on the road corse yet? curious if they are any quicker than the z06's.

what amazes me is the c6 coupe with z51 is almost half the price of the viper srt. $38,000.00 or so. I wonder if you took that difference in prices and put into performance engine, suspension and brakes, would you end up with a faster car on the road corse than a stock SRT-10?

I have driven the C6 6 speed w/Z51 suspension package. I recently traded my 02 Z06 w/Vararam induction system for a new 04 SRT10. My Z06 blew away the C6, and the SRT10 blowes away the Z06 in EVERY performance catagory! Case closed!

My top 10 REASONS

10) Leave house. There's a C6 down the street. Reason #10.
9) Exit to Chandler Blvd. Wait to pull out of traffic. There's another C6 speeding by... REASON #9.
8) Drive to I-10. (Approx 6 minutes). Two C6's pass by. Reason #8 and #7.
7) See #8
6) Exit Elliot Rd. Wait at light. See C6 pass by. Reason #6.
5) Go to post office. See Maroon C6 parked in post office lot. Reason #5.
4) Leave post office. Go to gym. See Black C6 parked in front. Reason #4.
3) Leave gym and go into work. See another Maroon C6 in parking lot. Reason #3.
2) Go back home. While driving home, stop off and get gas. See another C6 pumping gas. Reason #2.

The Z06's seem to be quicker on a road course vs. the C6/Z51 (actually quicker/faster in every performance category).

FWIW, a 1SA package C6 (which includes the sport seats, the base seats are not very good), with the Z51 package, comes out close to $48K MSRP - and I understand prices are [+- ] 500-750 MSRP right now (so the C6 is a little pricier than people think).

I'm sure you could build a faster car with the price difference, but then you've got a car with lowered reliability, no warranty, limited options for repairs - and expect for a few high end tuners, I don't think a good holistic engineering approach (i.e. Franken-car )

You need to be comparing the C6 Z06 when it is released. I agree the C6 is a little too cushy. The current Z06 blows it away IMHO.

I heard the new ZO6 is going to have 500hp. It'll be interesting to see how the power to weight ratio compares to the SRT-10.

I love everything about a Corvette, and I mean everything, but I can't figure why I buy new Viper every year for 9 years straight. I did sneak in a Vette in 2000, and I loved it, but it had to go. The 00 steel gray and silver made the Vette look bad sitting next to it. I really can't say anything bad about a Vette, is, "common" bad?

Actually, can there be too much discussion of the C6.

It is intended (and fails) to be competition for the Viper, but it is certainly something that Chevrolet hopes will boost sales.

Arguably, everything that we discuss about anything is massaged to death (or is that messaged), and likely, the discussions do not change the world.

We could discuss whether they will impeach Clinton. There's a thought.

For me, the forthcoming Z06 was truly a concern. At half the price of my Mamba, I could buy two Z06's (one to trash and the other with which to cover it up).

Or a Z06 and a Vegematic or Popeil Pocket Fisherman, and it is entering the Christmas period.

I agree there's no comparison between the two...but...apart from looking awesome, I want my car to be the fastest road car under $100K.

The new ZO6 will be 500 HP according to writeup in the latest Autoweek. You can bet it will be lighter than the SRT and so possibly faster. It won't brake like the SRT though.

DC needs to bump the power to the next level.

Just a few more...

- Getting to ride on those rear leaf springs, just like your great-grandma's buggy!

- All the money you saved from ownership of a real sports car that can now be applied to fake gold chains, pocket combs, and tupperware (apologies to PMUM)

- All the opportunities to contribute to the Museum at Bowling Green - that shrine to good taste in things plastic (or was that Graceland?)

That is all well and good, but the reason that I personally am trading for a C6 Corvette is that I am quite tired of sitting in the office and worrying about who is touching, drooling, and weeping over that darn Viper of mine.

Besides, flash photography is fading the paint.
