Well....
They weren't realy windows at all - they were removable SIDE CURTAINS, that were fabric and plastic and you UNZIPPERED them to "open", or removed them totally.

The Viper was originally a VERY basic / bare bones sports car.

RT's got power windows in 1997.

You know I use to wonder and complain about this exact thing. The fact that my car didn't have windows (and to mention no outside door handles). My wife said Quote: You would think for all that money you paid for that car you would get windows and door handles. I just replied:

No Frills.....Just Thrills :D

After having mine 4 years now. I like it that way.

On this issue, did the RTs always have an AC?

Not the early ones. Then if you did want ac it was a dealer install only. I'm not totally sure but I think in 95 it was then you could get it as a factory option. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

No. 92 had no A/C, but it became a dealer installed option for 93, and a factory installed option in 94, and I think it became standard in 96.

Not sure about 96 and standard ac though. Might have been different between the rt10 and GTS.

Ummm...
It doesn't have cruise control, a dead pedal or an autodimming rear view mirror either....

The Gen I cars are not daily drivers as delivered, unles syou live where it doesn't rain. You CAN get aftermarket plexi windows and make the car liveable, but the Gen II cars have more ameneties that make it reasonable as a DD.

96' and pre compared to 98' is a big difference,

1.)Windows...real windows!
2.)Better, cooler hood, with duct.
3.)Modern steering wheel.
4.)Stock 450 BHP.
5.)Driver and passenger air bags.

96's and below are just too "Survivor Island" to me.

Sounds like you and your buddy would like the corvette better. The 98`s are pretty bare bones but we like them that way.

Re: Am I reading this correct? The pre 97\' RT\\10 windows where plastic?

I would love to have the extra 50 hp (which isnt too hard to get with mods) and the later, lighter suspension, but I will take a sidepipe car any day over a rear exhaust.
Also, just my opinion, the whole idea of a Viper is "BASIC CAR, BIG ENGINE!!"
Remember I would guess 99% of us Viper owners do not drive them everyday.....I know some of you will chime in here and say you drive yours everyday (cool), but you are in the vast minority.
To each his or her own but if you are worried about "creature comforts"....like was said earlier, maybe a nice Z06 (which is a great car) is for you.
Best of luck,
Cheers,

Re: Am I reading this correct? The pre 97\' RT\\10 windows where plastic?

I did drive my 96 RT every day for a year and a half.... in Florida. Yeah it was a pain when it rained (often), but It is just as easy a daily driver as any car.

IMHO, the airbag steering wheel is ugly compared to the Gen I wheel..... but I do like the dash layout on the Gen II...

To each his own, as my grandmother always says.
