Congrats to Jason. The fact that it is a supercharger only/no nitrous run should not be understated.... very impressive.

Congratulations Russ and Jason!! It was a great day at MIR today! We were surrounded by Corvettes, Mustangs, and Hyabusas and Jason layed it down! Cheers erupted from all over the track as the board lit up "9.90" (and all the vette guys packed up their stuff and went home! hahaha!) I'll let Jason give a full account.

I couldn't be happier for Russ and I know how much Jason has put into building the fastest Vipers anywhere.

Here's the official timeslip:

Thanks for posting the timeslip Gary

Man    that's gonna be tough to beat.

I remember when I first joined the forum - there was a lot of talk and expectation that the SC only cars would finally join the NOS and Turbo cars and run a 9 - and its finally been done! This is very exciting for those concerned.

When Ballinger first ran a sub 4 minute mile and everyone was saying it was impossible - his achievement was followed by another, then another, and so on - likewise everyone now knows a 9 can be done in a street spec'd Viper on blower and pump gas.

Treynor,

My car has a stock 3.07 rear diff, stock clutch, stock tranny, and Unitrax titanium half-shafts.

Best of luck to you on your 9 second attempt.

I don't know jack about drag racing. I have to ask, what makes this 9-second run so awesome? I have seen lots of 9 second runs but don't know about this one...any help?

it is the first forced induction viPER DO DO IT! REACHING 9's in a VIPER is a awesome task that has only been done previously by the use of NOS.

THis is a accomplishment that is a big breakthrough to supercharged Vipers!

96 - Thanks, and yow. Running a 1.4x 60' at all is impressive; doing it with a centrifugal blower and stock gears is awesome. Congrats on upping the bar by being first into the 9's!

My runs will be on 10/25; I'll certainly keep everyone posted. My goal is to get kicked off the (NHRA) track

Basically pure air, no NOS on pump gas ? I still am a bit cloudy on it though. What exactly about this makes it spectacular? Is it that it's the first Viper ( but not the first car ) to do it ?

Hey 96 GTS and Jason....Great job.......many trying and you made it happen. Nice sixty foot time. I knew blue/white cars kicked ass :) Busted through the number by a full tenth !! A new bar has been set but the first s/c nine has been claimed.

Thanks for all of your kind words and encouragement. Surprisingly enough this was the first time this car has ever been to the track with this combination. While we all hoped for a 9 second run no one really believed it would happen.

The car still retains the factory shortblock with the exception of the camshaft. Other than the swaybar being disconnected the suspension is all stock. The rear end is home to a set of 3.07 gears and a stock differential. The heads are our own fully ported stock heads, the cam is a custom grind that we found works quite well. I could post specs if you would like......yeah right. The intake has been extrude honed the headers and exhaust are B&B with no cats for now. All runs were made on 16" E.T. streets with skinnies up front.

I have to give credit to all of those who have already accomplished this feat. Driving a stick shift car with that much power is not easy and if you want to run the numbers there is no room for error.

I would also like to thank all of my customers who in some way made this possible.

Congratulations to Russ, I hope you will enjoy the car more than ever.

Now I have to start thinking about what's next. I'm sure I'll come up with something. wink

Good luck to all of you future 9 second S/Cers. I'm sure it won't be long before you join us.

Jason - congrats again! Next time make sure someone is videotaping when you take a car down the track -- I want to see that launch!

One clarification - you said 16" ET streets (I assume the same 11.5-26-16s everyone seems to run) but on page 1 the post says 17" ET streets? I know stock gears will top out at ~152 MPH with the 16" ETs; I wasn't sure if the 17"ers were any shorter and if that was affecting overall gearing.

They are definitely 16" ET Streets (they came off my car) and the videotape is being processed as we speak. I'll post it shortly.

Re: 9 second pass

Jason,

Congradulations on being first SC Viper in the 9's!!! We talked about it at dinner in Houston and a little over a month later you lay the number down at the track!!

Now I guess I have to stop giving the SC a hard time.

Re: 9 second pass

Ben, they are the usual 16" E.T Streets. Gary has the video and will be posting it shortly. J Dawg, I was working, this is what a tuner does for a living, I know it sounds tough but it's the best job I could find. Anthony, I got a message last night that read: Dear supercharged Viper, it was nice to finally meet you, I began to think you didn't exist. Signed, 9 second timeslip. LOL.
