Having recently returned from an exclusive visit to the Ferrari plant in Modena, I am in love once again. Watching those cars being built, I imagine, would be like watching da Vinci bring to life the portrait of La Gioconda.
From the leather wrapped tools to protect each fastener, to the tireless precision of each hand assembly operation. They even have a car cover inspection area (factory sewn), to ensure it's perfection. Any Ferrari can be custom ordered in any color/modification you want... as long as you have the $$, and Ferrari Marketing approves it. The better a customer of Ferrari you are, the better your chances of a custom car/color.
Upon birth, each car is taken on Ferrari's F1 type practice track next to the assembly facility and Ferrari test drivers must approve it prior to it's being released. Their job is to ensure each car is as identical in performance as possible, each engine custom tuned on the dyno to be precise in it's power.
Imagine ordering your custom Ferrari, (waiting 18 months, to which Ferrari marketing said that is a desired time to allow for full appreciation of the car), then flying to Modena to watch your car run down the final lines. You get to watch a Ferrari test driver excerise your car on the F1 track. Ferrari will then arrange a romantic route for you to drive down the Malfy coast to arrive at your break in miles. The first service will then be preformed at the factory, and your car shipped to you back home.
The Viper can out run a Ferrari Modena hands down. But the Ferrari is an entirely different experience. There are faster cars, but there is only one that summizes the epitomy of the ultimate sportscar experience - the Ferrari.
I had chills the entire time we were there, can't explain it, I was in awe. Somehow the thought of owning a Viper seemed insignificant at that time, ashamed to say, but true. The entire town of Modena was Ferrari. It was a lifestyle. One that I long to enjoy. Someday...
Reminds me of the Harley saying: "You can get there in a hurry, or you can get there on a Harley".
