Anybody have experience with the new G-TECH \"Competion Pro\" computer?

Hello;

I ordered mine about a month ago (the were back- ordered) and it should arrive tomorrow am.

This looks to be a pretty darn nifty and accurate unit. Should be fun to test out the SRT with. Mine has 505 miles as of today on the ODO, and let me tell you, the SRT is amazing!

If you have this new G-TECH "comp-Pro" computer, I would appreciate your comments on ease of use. It is supposed to "calibrate itself" (compared to normal G-TECH), and has a very easy to read display. It also keeps track of multiple runs, so you can compare whether your "latest mod" really works. It gives "G" measurements, braking, torque, rpm's, etc by running off of the cigarrete lighter ac. This Pro unit also takes temperature into it's calculations to ensure accuracy. Sounds like a really worthwhile Viper accessory!

I look forward to hearing how you like this G-TECH "Competition Pro".

Thanks,

Jim

Yes, I bought one of the first ones released, and tested it recently at the dragstrip. Results (in my '03 X5 4.6is):

0-60 was dead accurate
60' time was 0.3 sec pessimistic (I stage as shallow as possible, so this is logical)
1/4 mile et was dead accurate (<0.05 sec error)
1/4 mile mph was 3% optimistic (95 mph indicated vs 91.5 mph actual)

All in all, I'm very satisfied with the unit.

I'll second the motion -- G-Tech Pro is very easy to use and accurate (within 3% of the slip for time and speed in 1/4 mile). Only complaint is that software to download data to PC has not been released (promised by end of Dec 02). Hope it is available soon since you can only store about 20 runs in the unit.

Treynor and TriJim;

Thanks for your comments; this board is great! I only wish for even more descriptions about day to day use if you have time to post more thoughts.

When the unit arrives, I want to get the most information from it in the "correct" way. I cannot remember how particular the g-tech pro is supposed to be when you are going on a full throttle blast on an incline or decline, for example. Few roads (and opportunities to speed) are perfect around my home. Does the "comp Pro" compensate for this? Boy, that would be cool if it did!

If you have any "set-up" tips for my first use of it, I would probably benefit from your experience. I can't wait to try things like K&N filters, changing tire pressure, acceleration with the SRT top "up vs down" and other tests.

Does it have a sensor to monitor "outside" temp, or do you take it outside in the air first to get a "base" reading, and then install it in the Viper. I think that is probably how the thing makes a fair calculation.

Thanks, I'll be checking for any more info you care to share. I would think about every serious Viper owner would want one of these just for fun.

Jim
