about the 2003 Cobra SVT? I just saw the Car & Driver episode that stated it does the 1/4 in 12 flat...I for one better be on the look out, lest I get my hinie spanked by another snake!!

There was some discussion over the "12 second" number. The key is they didn't use the word "flat" they just said "1/4 mile in 12 seconds".

I am 99.99% sure that what they meant was in the 12-second range... meaning anything from 12.0 to 12.9.

At a 30-40hp deficit, and more weight, this Cobra won't be outrunning any Vipers in anything close to stock form.

But those C5's... THEY should be worried

I saw a test on it - can't remember what mag. but it was high 12s. I think 12 flat means twelve minutes. heeheehee

I haven't seen the report, but Mike Brunton is undoubtedly right--if they said 12 seconds, they meant 12.something, not 12 flat. I subscribe to all the Mustang magazines as well as the more generic mags (C&D, R&T, etc.), and a completely stock '03 Cobra runs high 12's to low 13's, depending on who's driving, the weather, etc. However, they can be modified very easily, and Evan Smith did run a 12 flat in one with a smaller Lightning blower pulley and the air intake removed (I can't remember whether the exhaust was modified or not). But that's with Evan driving as well. Bottom line is a stock Cobra should not be a match for a stock Viper, but there will be modified ones that could be fairly close. But of course that's always been true with all the blown 'stangs running around out there. Ford did a great job of closing the gap significantly for ~$35k, but I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep about it.

the stock 03 cobras are dynoing anywhere between 350 to 400 hp at the rear wheels 100% stock. they are low 12 sec cars.

opening the exhaust with a good cheap catback and changing the intake + installing a smaller pulley from ford lightning (total $1000) netted 440 rwhp.

you draw your conclusions, but in my eyes we just got another car that is a worthy opponent...

I doubt you have anything to worry about in either case

As a side note, I've always thought it b.s. to say 1/4 ranges, e.g., "dude, my car's in the 12s" because those 12s are more than likely 12.99, which to me means 13, just like if you were buying something from the store. To me, it seems people are just trying to be misleading about the times of their cars by saying 1/4 times that way. Times for the 1/4 seem to be represented slightly differently than 0-60, i.e., no one says "dude, my car's in the 3s", they say I'm making sub-4 sec 0-60 times.

Wow, I didn't know Corsa made a 4" exhaust for the Viper. How's it sound? Those would be some FAT pipes.

Actually more like 350-380 rwhp, but you could call that quibbling. And they most definitely are not low 12 second cars completely stock, although they can be made into a low 12 second car relatively inexpensively if that is what you meant.

Hey Tomer, just tried out my 200 shot of Nitrous, I think I will not have any problems against one unless it is pulley changed and also Nitrous, The acceleration is phenoominal. Used up almost a bottle just last night.

Varanus, how is the heat issue? If you have mastered the burping, I would love to get a tutorial and try in on my car...
