Are Viper guys true MOPAR fans or just a specialized sect?

I want a Viper because being a true MOPAR or NO CAR guy, the viper is the top of the heap of modern day muscle. I have owned almost every classic mopar and currently own a 72 cuda,
71 challenger, 68 Cuda, 71 Duster drag car and a 51 business coupe race car. I am looking at a 02 Viper that is very clean with a salvage title due to an encounter with a bush that needed body
work with no frame or engine damage. I bought the car firstly because I love the way it looks and secondly the price with the salvaged title was too good to pass on.

The other Mopar forums I am a member of are very open to help all types of mopar guys from the hands off millionaires to the back yard grease monkey. I am hoping I will find the same type of
people and help here. So far the members and help have been great!

In my opinion...of the true automobile enthusiasts who own Vipers, there are at least two separate groups as you have mentioned. Some of the most rabid Viper owners seem to have little or no knowledge of or appreciation for Mopar history, accomplishments, or even the cars themselves.

I have been doing the Mopar Spring Fling Carshow at the Chrysler Zone office in Mississauga(GTA) for the last 30 years , typically work the front gate , and do judging from time to time . My first car at 15 years old , a 1970 Charger R/T 440 Magnum car , #'s matching . In 1983 the car ran 11.87 @124mph on street tires

I am simply an American muscle car guy. I've got a few muscle cars as noted below and have owned/sold quite a few more. The only "late-model" American muscle I own are the Vipers. I do have a C6 Vette but while an awesome piece of engineering it doesn't elicit the testosterone rush that the Viper does. I hope you enjoy your Viper, you won't be disappointed in any way. The closest of my older cars in comparison to the Viper is the 440 six-pack 'Cuda. Torque ratings are almost the same. The Viper has the monster tires so you hook up much sooner but both are a handful to drive.

My primary loyalty is to Chrysler/Mopar products but I also like Ford products. I have never owned a GM product. ( That is not intended as a comment about GM products. I just never bought one.) Like MOPAR people, Viper people all share the enthusiasm for the Viper, but have a wide variety of other interests. Some are all MOPAR, and others no interest, other than their Viper. Some are millionaires, and others need to scrimp and save to get a used one.

Some like to race, others show and shine. Some like to modify, others wish to stay factory original. For some it is their every day car and others just for special occasions.

We tend to accept all with an interest in the Viper. No matter their level of involvement, everybody is welcome, and encouraged to mingle, so as to learn from those with different interests and knowledge.

While I can appreciate the musclecar era Mopars, and actually know quite a bit about them, I don't consider myself a Mopar guy. I've always been a GM guy, still am. I do like Dodge trucks and Vipers though. As for the classics, I love the 'Cudas.

Good question. I am an exotic car guy, but I think the gen 2 GTS is a bad ass looking car. That's why I could not resist getting one. Never really thought about the fact that I was buying a Mopar

My dad was a Mopar guy growing up. He had a 70 AAR Cuda just after high school.

I on the other hand am a Ford guy. Love my Mustangs and Shelbys. Bought the Viper because I thought it was a bad ass car. I think of it as the Shelby Cobra of our era.

I agree. The muscle cars of yesteryear were straight line cars. In general, they did not brake well or handle well. The primary mission of the Viper has always been road course performance which is consistent with the Cobra that inspired it. Both types of cars are subsets of the broader set - performance cars. With that said, if a driver can master a launch and get a good 60', a Viper can be a capable quarter mile car as we have seen through the activities of a number of members over the years. JackB, NIne Ball, Brooks and Wanted come to mind.

I think that the old school Mopar muscle cars and Vipers are two different worlds.

When I first got into sports cars I owned a 93 Mustang, and I thought I was a Ford guy. I sold the mustang when I moved to Butt F^%$ Saskatchewan. I moved back to civilization and decided on the Viper, just because it is more unique than the Mustang. There went the Ford boy theory. I then bought a 69 Pontiac GTO Judge convertible (clone), so I think in the end I love North American muscle, and have no loyalty to one single company or model.

Yes, I've only owned a Viper for a couple months. Before that it was an 800 hp Supra for 10 years so my car knowledge is very limited outside of imports but I'm working on learning the domestic side now. I'm reading up on MOPAR now thanks to google and youtube.

Not a Mopar guy, but had 68 Barracuda Formula S vert 4 spd, 68 Charger 383 auto, bought my 72 Challenger 340 4 spd new. 85 Cherokee turbo diesel, 1990 Cherokee LTD, 1998 Grand Cherokee LTD, and wife has now a 2010 Grand Cherokee LTD with the 5.7 Hemi . Other cars, 66 Vette 427 4spd coupe, 1980 Vette 350 auto, 66 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, 64 Lincoln [ best built domestic], 96 Mustang GT vert manual and a host of others. Not a Mopar guy but sure like my 1999 Viper GTS!

When I had my Supra's, I wondered this same questions about them. I had a Toyota Camry, Celica, MR2, and three Supra's.

I'm actually not a big American muscle car guy, the Viper has always been an automobile I appreciated. Many Supra owners jump in to a Viper. When I take a step back and look at the old American muscle classics, for some reason I like the MOPAR cars over GM and Ford.

I have been a Ford person all of my life, although I have owned just about every major American brand car at some time. Other than the early 426 Hemi cars, Chrysler products have not interested me but the Viper is something special in my opinion.

I've built Mustangs and Vettes and as for classics, I lean more towards Mustangs and Camaros than classic MOPAR products.
The Viper is kind of a "thing of its own" for me.
Nothing against classic MOPARS, just like other stuff too.

Growing up I was a diehard Shelby/Ford, Ferrai, Lambo guy and anti-Camaro. I liked MOPAR cars but not a rabid fan like the Shelby/Ford stuff.
I fell in love with Viper all by itself, as a stand alone.
However, over the years I have found a love for all of them, MOPAR, Chevy (even Camaros), AMX's, Oldsmobile's etc. I love 'em all.

I had a 76 Chevy Camaro for 4 yrs as a daily driver in the UK. Then after a short family moment of economy cars, upgraded to a Cobra replica, this then lead me onto the Viper (which I never really believed I would ever be able to own). I got the Viper because I loved watching them at Le mans.

I have restored numerous Chrysler products including two Superbirds. I always preferred the 1960-1970s Chrysler products to most others. I also like Fords and Ford products are my daily cars. I've had Ford trucks for 20 years. I've never been interested in what GM offers.

But...what is a Mopar? The word comes from the 1930s...shortened from MOtoring PARts...Chrysler's parts division. "Mopar" became slang for any Chrysler product...although I don't understand why. We don't call Fords "Motorcrafts".

I once took my 1972 Scamp to a cruise night where the featured cars were Mopars. I was told to park away from the Mopars. They thought"Mopar" was a term for musclecars. I explained that any Chrysler, Dodge or Plymouth is a Mopar.

First car was a 68 Roadrunner. Started out with a 383, auto, stock gears. Ended up with 440 dual quad tunnel ram, 4 speed, and 4.11 gears. Mopar has been in my blood ever since. Still in the family as I sold it to my brother:
