I'm doing some research on exhaust systems. I search the forum and found a bunch of comparisons between full belanger setup (headers + catback) vs corsa, but I couldn't find if anyone has tried belanger headers + Corsa catback I'm wondering if you would get best of both worlds, deeper throaty amazing sound + absolutely no drone. So the question is does anyone has this setup? :eater:

Also I was wondering how is the sound with belanger headers and stock mufflers. Anyone with this setup? :eater:

Audio/Video clips would be great.:2tu:

Thanks.

THE YEAR MATTERS ! What Year do you own? They sound quite different across the Gens.

Quite a few owners have chosen this exact combo for Gen 3-4. Best Of Both Worlds: Deeper Tone, Cooler, ++ HP and TQ. It does COST more to skip the Belanger Catback vs the CORSA....but if you hate resonance and drone, (or your seat-mate does) the CORSA is your best solution behind a Belanger.

Depending on the YEAR, not too many folks invest in headers and leave the rest stock. Restrictive and hot.

I bet if you SEARCH you would find lots of feedback.

Remember: When asking any question here, ALWAYS say the year and model and mods of your Viper. If you dont, it is almost impossible to give you an accurate answer.

I don't have a viper yet but here are the specifications of two possible candidates:

2003 viper with the following mods:
K&N air filters
Corsa Track exhaust

2008 SRT10 Convertible completely stock.

It would be awesome if I could get feedback for both.

OK so let's say I go with a 2008. Would belanger + corsa exhuast give the best possible sound with absolutely no drone?

I have an 08 with the Belanger headers and HF cats necked down to 2 1/2" and kept the stock mufflers, as I did not want too loud.
The car does not have any drone and is resonably quiet when cruising, and sounds great when accelerating, WOT is loud and great.
But at idle it still sounds raspy like a tractor, so I'm thinking of getting a 2 1/2"catback that would have a deeper and more mellow tone. I would like the Corsa but the clips I've heard of it still seamed raspy to me.

On my 2000 ACR it already had the exhaust when I bought it. It has 1 3/4" Belanger Headers, Roe Racing High Flow Cats with Corsa cat back. To be honest, I really don't like the sound of it at all. There is no drone but it's almost to quiet and raspy for me. If I ever get to ride with someone that has a 2000 GTS with Borla, I might just trade someone straight up. But I don't know anyone off hand. I'm still young so I don't think the drone of a Borla exhaust would bother me that much, if at all.

Tony, do NOT be confused by answers that are NOT your year of car, much less not even the same basic layout!

If you dont want resonance or drone, you have ONE OPTION. Period. CORSA.

If you like a deeper tone, the metallurgy of Belanger gives you that. PERIOD.

Volume is then a function of diamater and cat choice and to some small degree air intake.

This is very interesting. Soon I'll be looking to get a good sound out of the car but I don't want it to be too loud and I don't want any drone. Seems belanger headers -> HF cats -> stock mufflers could be a good way to achieve that. I like the idea of the extra hp + deeper louder sound that headers provide but I don't want to feel like I have the exahust connected to my ears while cruising.

I was going to shoot you some questions but found this thread you started very informative: http://forums.viperclub.org/threads/636678-Video-H-F-Cats-on-stock-08-exhaust Thanks!!!

What JonB says.

Belanger headers and Corsa track on Gen IV = best sound, very deep, not raspy at idle (like the OE exhasut), no drone, good hp and tq gains. Screams at WOT, cruises very nicely.

^^^What high-flow cats would you recommend for the belanger + corsa setup for the best sound?

How about corsa alone on a 2008. Anyone has a sound clip video of this?

BTW I'm posting this here in case someone search the threads while searching on the same subject. I hope Claude don't mind I use his car as an example.

08 SRT10 stock exhaust:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yko25cRB20

08 SRT10 high flow cats and stock mufflers:
http://s91.photobucket.com/albums/k306/SilveRT8/?action=view&current=HFCats.mp4

That same car has now belanger headers but I couldn't find a video clip :(
Here is a description of the sound change by the owner though:
"The Belangers are now installed with the stock muffler and the description of the sound is about the same, execpt louder and deeper, like adjusting a stereo volume from 6 to 8 and the Bass level from 3 to 5. It absolutly screams at WOT, but is still very quiet when cruising around so you can talk on the phone on the freeway."

I found this videos of a gen3 viper with corsa exhaust, randomtech cats, K&N intake. I'm not sure what year it's but I would assume 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 models would most likely sound very similar with the same setup:

I'll be adding videos clips of different setups later on. Please keep the info coming. I don't want to waste time investigating this stuff when I have the car. I think it's better if I do it now so once I have it I can spend my time :drive:

Any sound clips/videos of this? I'd love to hear this setup

I have the Balanger Headers with Corsa Exhaust. I have had it with cats and without. Mine is on a tunned GenIII

Not sure what it would sound like on a GenIV

Thanks for sharing, I hope you don't mind answering some questions:

Do you like the sound you get out of this setup?
How different is the sound with cats vs no cats?
Is the sound deep, throaty?
How is the sound at idle (UPS truck rumble like)?
Does it sound similar to the way corsa sound without the balanger headers just louder or is the sound completely different? (you can base your answer on a video of a gen3 with corsa that I posted above...)
Do you get any drone?
How is the interior noise, do you get any vibrations rattles from interior pieces caused by resonance?

Do you have a sound clip/video of your setup by any chance?
It would be great to hear it. I might go with a gen3 if I get desperate while saving the extra money for the 2008...

What kind of clip do you need. I will be at Mid Ohio race track in two weeks and Im sure I can get you some drive by sounds as I go down the front straight. Also at idle too. Is that what your looking for?

Yes that would be great. Idle, reving, drive by at slow and faster speeds would be awesome and if possible a clip where the camera is inside the car while regularly driving (35/60 mph).

Cool. Thanks that will be great if your car sounds half as good as it looks I'll go with that setup if I go with a gen3. Love the hardtop, the spoiler and the stripes, being a convertible it's almost like if you had two different cars.

What I can tell you for a Gen III is that a stock exhaust without the crossovers mated to headers and hi flo cats will give you unwanted drone. I believe the Gen IV will be better in this respect with the different intake cam/head setup.

I don't have Belanger's with stock exhaust, but I do have American Racing Headers with no cats, and the stock exhaust, including the cross-over. I absolutely love the sound. It deep and mean when on the throttle, but as quiet as stock when cruising at highway speeds. Absolutely zero drone. I following video has some cold-start idling and a few WOT Runs.

1) It's loud! It is not like straight pipe loud, but it is a big difference compared to stock and it was a big surprise to me the first time I heard it. My car is black and typically does not stand out too much. But I got a lot more attention once I had the exhaust because the car sounded so much more menacing.

2) It has drone. Don't let anyone tell you it doesn't. If you ride with the top up, you can hear it. I don't know how bad it is compared to Borla or Bellanger, but it is there. Can't get around it. Though, I wouldn't say it is bad; very manageable.

3) It is raspy. I've had the setup on for about ~750 miles and, I don't know what the break in period is for the setup, but there is a raspyness to it that I've never heard on other cars.

Last - I Love it!!! It is loud, mean, and demands attention. I've never heard it from outside my car while driving (I'm always the one driving it), but my friends have told me that when they hear me coming up behind them on the highway at WOT and listen as I fly by, it sounds awesome!! I don't think you will be disappointed with this setup if you get it.

I'm due to record and post some videos of the setup. Maybe I can do that soon now that I have more of a reason to!

Got a pair of Gen III Belanger headers in the storage I could part with if you need them. Brand new coating from Belanger, had a few thousand miles on these. PM if you are interested.
