What's the best path from Palm Springs (on I-10) to Long Beach? Is the 91 from Riverside to Compton a good way to go? Any construction areas to avoid?

I was thinking I-10 to
60 to
91 to
710

Thanks.

Just remember that there is a huge migration of commuters in the moring, going West on about every freeway, especially the 91. This "rush hour" lasts from 5:30 am to about 10 am, then it dies down for about 90 seconds, until all those commuters head back East in the evening. Even though a lot of employers have staggered shifts, the traffic still blows. This is true of about all the East-West freeways in LA/Orange/Riverside counties. The jobs are in LA and Orange counties, and affordable housing is out East, in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. Maybe GTS Dean can build us some double-decker highways, (when we get out of debt in 3074) and that would alleviate congestion for at least a couple of weeks.

Your route sounds about as good as any other, just don't plan on going that way (West) during the morning rush. Luckily, I live in Orange County, but then we have the North/South rush hours issues, going to and from LA.

Thanks, Vic.

We have a caravan from Phx to the Zone event. Plan to be going through Palm Springs about 11am so we should miss the peak traffic

Sounds like a good route and timing to me. I'd say tune into one of the a.m. news stations once you get near, just in case if there is a sig alert (1070 a.m.).

Marv, like Vic says the 91 couldn't **** enough. If it were me, I would take the 10 from Palm Springs to the 60. Then come down through what we affectionately refer to as the 'Badlands' and follow the 60 in to the 57 then cut south on the 57 to the 91. You avoid all the Corona Crawl on the 91 which like Vic says is no problem for those 90 seconds between rush hours.

I assume you are staying at the Queen Mary?...If so I would simply take the 10 west all the way to the 710 south and take that all the way to the end....It ends at the Queen Mary ..(Gumball Rally?)....
My two cents...
Cheers,
