Just did the first brake job on my 00' snake. I had all 4 corners done and used EBC red (street/strip) pads. On the 5 mile ride back here the first thing I noticed was how high and hard the pedal was, second and most important was how hard I had to press to get the car to slow down. I could not get them to lock at all. Is this normal break in, will they get better when they bed? If so how long??????? It's a lousy feeling and god forbid I need an emergency stop.

I'm not familiar with the pads you are using, but the symptoms make it sound like a race pad. Until you get race pads good and hot, they won't stop your car. Street pads are the opposite... once you get them good and hot, they won't stop your car.

1. REDS are competion street pads - they are not Full competition pads.
2. Did you have the rotors turned? If not you should have
3. All new pads need to be seated - get the brakes nice and hot two or three times - you should be good to go.

What else was done - brake fluid changed?

If you are running these pads you must be anticipating getting a lot of heat into the brakes - suggest high temp brake fluid and porsche cooling ducts.

You may need to give those pads as much as a 100 miles of gentle braking to match themselves to the grooves which ( unless they are new ) are bound to be on your discs. Gradually build up your braking and they will bed in nicely. Reds have a similar C of F to std pads.

The box states to drive them easy for the first 300 miles and clean the rotors with an emory board.....I'm still in the EBC Green brake-in....50 miles to go....
