Got a brand new FE. I put 900mi on it and now the heater does not work. Just blows outside temp air. The air temp does not heat up. The fan works. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Dennis

this happened to me, open your hood, on the pass side behind the wheel is the heater equip. There should be a black plastic hose, small diameter. This was cut/chewed on mine , it was a simple fix. Hope it works

Dennis, stupid answer, but hey, you are covered under warranty! On my Gen I, there is a heater control valve near the
cowl in front of pass seat area, which directs the warm(hot) coolant into heater core to heat air inside the cabin.
This is connected via cable to the heater control on the dash...Perhaps this cable is no longer attached?

My 0.02.

I hear removing the cats severely limits the heating capacity of the side sills. Make sure someone didn't steal your cats!

Have seen a couple where the heater control cable slips off the "hook" on the top of the heater just in front of the firewall on right side...reattach, and you may be home free.

Which way are you turning the control.... heat only comes out when the control
knob is turned to the right of top center...

So said Steve-Indy

I second this one... Money says you accidentally knocked this off while detailing your engine compartment.

Tomer,
I had the same problem. Opened the hood, followed the cable near the bottom of the windshield to the passenger side and there it was...cable was disconnected. Be sure to try this first.

Wonder if he fixed it yet.

Reading this thread I just realized even after driving my Viper almost every day for 10 months I have never turned the heat on. :)

I should probably go check and make sure it actually works.

Heat isnt supposed to blow out the front vents. Only the top on bottom. At least thats how it used to be.

Is this how it is on all Vipers? My GTS gives heat only out the window vents but I cannot get heat to come out of the dash vents. I assume that if I turn the temp. knob to red and the directional knob to vents at your head or feet it should give me warm air. All I get is cold air. I am not sure if it is A/C or the 30-degree outside air.

We can get heat out of every vent right? The manual only has half a page on it and it does not say anything to the contrary.

No. Gen I and Gen II did not have "mixing" type ventilation systems. Heat and cold are discrete. You can have heated air from the defroster and floor vents or A/C from the dash and crotch outlets. If you select the dash outlets and turn the temperature knob to heat, the air flow will not go by the heater core, and thus not heat the air.

To evaluate the heater turn the selector to the floor or defroster position and test it.

If you want a full mixing type system you will need to get an SRT.

My Final Edition also does not blow hot air from the dash vents (but all you need to do is drive for 10 minutes or so and the cabin is nice and toasty, even in 30 degree weather!)

I recall reading that in the owners manual because I thought I too had a problem.

Ron,
Thanks for the information as the manual did not say anything about that. I was thinking I would have to go in for my first warranty job but I guess not. I never knew there was such thing as a non-mixing ventilation system. Not only does it exist, but I own one. :smirk:
