Was driving home from breakfast with the wife this morning and was sitting at a light on Colonial drive and about 3 cars in front of me I see a new yellow vette up in front of me. There was another car next to them and the people in that car were talking to the passenger in the vette. A few seconds later I hear the vette revving it engine for the people they were talking to and it was LOUD. I figured it was just a C6 with exhaust but my wife said she could see the right rear of the car and it looked to have big tires on it. I wondered to myself if it was a Z06. Light turns green up ahead and we start moving and I maneuver the car to get a better view of the vette and yes indeed it is a Z06. The car does look good from behind. Even though we were accelerating pretty slow I could hear the car up ahead and new that it had to have the muffler switch mod done because there was no way it would be that loud just going through the gears at the pace we were. Traffic started to clear and I passed our turnoff to the house and told the wife I wanted a closer look at the vette, as usual she was accommodating. Anyway caught up to the guy a few minutes later and was behind him and I could see him telling his passenger that there was a viper behind him as the guy in the passenger seat turnaround and began looking outside the passenger side mirror. A car cleared on the right and I drove up next to the guy going about 50 or so and he gave a couple revs and the “stare down”. I moved in front of him and we came up to a light and he was right behind me. Light turned green and I took off pretty slow and at about 15mph he came out from behind me full on it and went by my passenger door. I knew this was too good to resist even though my car only has 345 miles on it and got in it a little in 2nd and 3rd to keep up with him. Road was totally open ahead of us and as I pulled up next to him, he downshifted into second gear (I had it in 4th). I was trying to talk to him but the damn thing was so freaking loud as he must have been holding it at 3,500 rpm’s or so. Eventually he shifted up a gear, although the car was still surprisingly loud (this is important for later as he missed a noise that would have saved him) and as he could hear me now I asked him if he wanted to run through a couple gears. He proceeded to tell me that it would be no contest and that I should not want to embarrass myself in front of my wife. The bonehead in the passenger seat looked to be in hysterics over there next to the driver laughing his ass off. I said I just wanted to see how fast the car was and he said it was a waste of gas for him but okay. We were out past Orlando Speedworld by now going to Cocoa beach and had about a 3 mile stretch in front of us. We slowed down to about 45 or so and I waited for him to downshift into 2nd before I did. Was at roughly 3,000 rpm’s and as it was really cold this morning was worried about the runcraps hooking up but figured I was at a low enough rpm to be okay. I looked over at the guy and told him to hit it when he was ready. Right after I said it, he dropped the hammer. Now this is where I was surprised and also worried (for about a second). As I suspected I could feel the tires spinning just a little when I got on it and the vette was right next to me, I almost felt like I was going to have to back out of it if the tires were still loose when the boost came on but it felt solid as I came up on 4,500 rpm’s. Vette was still right there though he may have even inched up ahead of me. From 4,500 up to redline I put 2 cars on him, hit 3rd and it seemed like he came back about half a car as I must have shifted into 3rd before him although by now the ******* in his passenger seat was probably trying to figure out what the hell was going on. 3rd gear was the back breaker for the bowtie. I have always owned corvettes up until getting the viper and I knew what I was doing to this guy was going to leave some permanent scars and it actually had me feeling bad for the guy until about 5,500 rpm’s and as the car started pushing me back into the seat I forgot all about him. Hit 4th gear and he must have been back about 5 cars or so now and starting to cry. I hit 4th gear and pulled it up to about 150 or so and the vette to his credit stayed on it as well. He was back about 8-9 cars by now and when I let off it I could see him coming real hard. A few seconds later he came by me about 160 or so. Sounded like he hit 5th as he was coming by and I could hear him on it for at least another ¼ mile or so ahead of me and he must have ran it up real close to 190 I would say. As I came to the turnoff and looked over at the wife I told her that blower was the best $10K I’ve ever spent. She looked at me with a big ass smile and gave me a high five.
