Folks,
We're checking interest level in a trip to the Simeone Automotive Museum in
Philadelphia on Saturday Feb 23. This museum is a fantastic collection of race
cars. See the website: http://simeonemuseum.org/
On the 4th Saturday of each month, the museum has "Demonstration Days" (click on
"Demonstration Days" on the website for more info) where Dr. Simeone discusses a
select group of cars. On Feb 23, he will be discussing the design similarities
between the 1964 Shelby Daytona Cobra Coupe (the museum owns 1 of the 6 ever
made) and the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO. Typically, they then take the cars out for
a drive in the back parking lot, but I am not certain this part will happen
given it is winter and they are advertising this as an indoor event. Regardless,
seeing these cars would be a rare treat.
Our logistics would be the following: We would charter a bus (or buses,
depending on interest level). The plan would be to leave at 8 am (from an as
yet undetermined location) and get there at 10 am or so. We would tour the
museum on our own until perhaps 11:15 (we do have members with connections to
Dr. Simeone so maybe we could arrange for a guided tour from him -- no promises
there). Then we would have an arranged casual lunch in one of their private
rooms. At 12 noon, the demonstration begins and then we would plan to leave by
1:30, arriving back at our starting point by 4 pm. We would expect the cost for
this per person would be about $75 and would include the bus fare, entrance to
the museum, and lunch (it could be less depending on the number of people who
go).
For now, what I need from you is an indication of interest if you would like to
come and the number of people in your party. You do not need to tell me if you
cannot come. I repeat -- you do not need to tell me if you cannot come. You
will not yet be committed to come, but after we get the indications, we will
start planning and will ask people to commit perhaps a week in advance of the
event. Please reply to me at kirk.meighan@... by Friday Jan 25 if you
have interest and the number of people in your party.
Thanks,
