Why in the world would SRT make more new Gen.5 Vipers to sit in showrooms unsold. They will have to firesale /give them away to get rid of the hundreds sitting in showrooms now.Sad End,but that is reality.
Exactly.

Yes,a new greatly improved Gen.6 Viper is the only hope for new Vipers in the future.Esp.with that new Z06 coming..
Agreed....the new Z06 is a killer.

SRT can do this if they wish,as demonstrated with new Hellcats...
Yes, they can.

IMO, it would take a serious departure from the G5.
The design of the first 20 years has been a slow evolution.
Unfortunately, the G5 situation shows it has been too slow for the current marketplace.

But all is not lost.
With technical help from Fiat/Ferrari, the Viper can attain glory again.
A new chassis and powerplant will quicken pulses.
BTW, what is Pininfarina up to these days?;)

100% certain it's closed. All skilled trades are currently " Temporary Inactive" which means on layoff.

Also, the tradespeople numbers have been cut to less than half of how many were there at the start of summer.

I have heard 2 rumors, they're going back on the 2nd. But, I was talking with a supplier and was told they were told it was closed for another 3 months. I haven't been able to find info that confirms this, though.

I can check next week - see if people are back yet.

Yeah if you could check that would be great. Im curious if they start production again tomorrow

Bummed. Still not back.

I would email someone, but they're all work emails and you can't access work email from home anymore.

it sounded like prefix was going to start painting panels for the viper at the end of the month.

Good to hear, and it's interesting how Prefix is expanding/diversifying in the very recent.

Viper rag top, acquired Arrow Racing Engines, and they're building a "desert racer" Ram right now.

I never heard, but I assume the SC'd V-10's came from Arrow.

OK, Skilled Trades went back this week along with a handful of Production Staff (about 1 in 6) but I don't think production will be starting back up for a while. The internet "journalists" seem to get things wrong, as usual.

The last line of the Viper price reduction press on the intranet said "Production of 2015 model year Viper cars will begin at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit in the second half of the fourth quarter of 2014. The 2015 model year Viper cars will begin arriving in dealerships in the first quarter of 2015."

So, 6 more weeks ... 12 more before the 2015's will actually get to dealers, hopefully.

Does anyone know if the burned sills issue from the exhaust has been fixed? I'm hoping they get this right b/4 I consider a '15 or a '16.

It has always been a trait of the side exhaust Vipers.

Hi Jack. Quick question. And sorry for the off point post. Could you post an update on the inlet air temperature drag racing issue from months ago. Also, while you are at it, could you post about the new "tuning" device for the Gen V. Have you bought it and used it yet? Thanks in advance for your post.

For some reason, SRT is being reluctant to release future plans. Seem to wait for the last minute on most everything.

Makes it difficult for the ViperNation to get a firm handle on what is going on with the manufacturer.

Hope it is nothing, but worrisome.

Agreed.
Chevy seems to releasing some awesome numbers on the performance on the 2015 Z05 Vette .... I would like to see SRT do the same for Dodge.

That being said.... With Dodge being mum on the 2015... We should expect some big news .... DCT Tranny is my vote... with a slight bump in HP, and some suspension tuning!!!!

There are around 350 unsold vipers on cars.com

only 60 are SRT models. There is a huge glut of GTS still for sale. Thats the problem.

Will be interesting to see what the SRT inventory drops to before they start building again.

As per my post on the Z06 in late spring, perf numbers on the new Z06 (AUTO TRANNY VERSION ESPECIALLY ) exceed the last Zr-1 made .Within a month or 2 exact road test data will be made available but what i will say again is there is no perf criteria that the old ZR-1 can beat the new Z06 in .For example the old quartermile record for the ZR-1 set by Jamie Furman is 10.8 (bone stock on stock tires ) .That record easily falls The car (auto tranny version esp ) MOVES Another example would be to use the current Z51 automatic tranny as another barometer .On sea level tracks in good air they are running in the 11.4 range .Against the new Z06 that Z51 version would lose that race by approx 9 car lengths -you guys do the math.

as far as I can tell, everybody is back to work - not sure if building is happening yet, though. I had a gathering last friday that i thought a "source" might show up to - they didn't.

There is no money in Dodges budget to literally do anything with the Viper while Chevy budget on the Z06 is unlimited in comparasion .Theres parts in that Vette (Frame ,brakes, oiling system )Dodge would love to use in the Viper IF THEY HAD THE MONEY .Every R&D dollar going into that Z06 is mitigated by the other 30k Vetts Chevy sells per year .Even a slight horsepower bump to the Viper would cost millions Example a simple airfilter change requires EPA RE CERT =big money .Doubt theres money to do anything besides simple bolt ons and paint color changes

Glad to know you have insight into how Tim is budgeting for the Viper going forward.

You seem to forget that he was the first one to know about the rebate coming from Dodge on the Gen V, which got him nothing but grief and disparaging comments here, go look it up. Months before. And you joined in quite heartily.
And he was right on the money, but nobody gave him any credit.
Have bought and sold one Viper has made you an expert apparently.

Chrysler is printing cash at the moment. If they want to invest in the Viper they can - easily.

In NJ i dont think you could find a dealer to order one because theres no such thing as a non refundable deposit .The customer orders the car and decides not to take the thing the dealer is left floorplanning it forever and ultimately it either goes to Manhiem or he gives it away. Ps If they wanted to invest in the Viper but they DONT )Everything is now the Hellcall because theres MONEY IN IT FOR Dodge My buddy who was one of the largest Viper dealers in the country has Hellcat orders galore(while floorplanning his Gen 5s in stock for years) Srt could easily platform the Hellcall Drivetrain in the Gen 5 but its not even worth it for them to do that (that Hellcat motor will not fit in the Viper excuse is TOTAL HOGWASH. SRT knows they could sell the Viper with that drivetrain The problem is the car will sell numbers wise but not at the pricepoint that will MAKE MONEY(UNDER 100 GRAND ) That comes from the same Dodge Ex that gave me the coupon info. Whether the car has 640 hp or 1000 hp there is absolutely positively no marketplace for a 100k plus front engine American car. The buyer will look otherplaces at that pricepoint No matter what Dodge does to the car (other than a complete redo mid engine format )any money put into it for them is good money on top of bad. Chevy on the new teched out Z06 itself also loses money but they dont care for a few reasons. Number one its a performance icon for them Number 2 any loses are mitigated over the 30k plus other Vetts sold a year in the Vette platform
