Simple question. Has anyone here run better than a 7.19 @ 102mph in the 1/8th mile on true street tires? That was my best time on my Pirelli p-zeros with a 150 shot. I'll probably never have the highest hp or fastest 1/4 mile time but maybe just maybe I can claim the crown of 1/8th mile true street tire class. :D Seriously, I think it's a pretty strong time based on everyone's posts. If you've heard of anythig faster let me know. Thanks.

I haven't broken into the 7's yet on street tires. No NOS, just tubes, filters and exhaust. I have almost no traction at the start.

My track is only an 1/8th mile track. When the car was stock it ran a 7.9 @ 92mph. If you want to see the video of the 7.1 with the slip go to my site, click on videos and you will see it there.
oh btw mo 60' was a 1.81. Right after that run I laid down a 7.2 et with a 1.79 60'.

My car went 7.51 @ 97 with catback, filters and VEC1 on stock Pilots.Funny thing is I raced a trailered mustang that went 7.60 on slicks.:D That felt pretty good.I cut a 1.74 60 footer on that pass.

IMHO 1/8 th times are useless. May as well as get 0-5 feet times. I am more of a well rounded kind of car guy, brake, accel, handling.

Sorry but yes, on several occasions, many moons and lots less HP ago.

I had to go back to the last time I ran Stock Michelin Pilots which was Nov 10, 2001 for this run:

60' 1.80
1/8 7.04
1/8 MPH 106.10
1/4 10.66
1/4 MPH 138.07

Several before that from 1998 to 1999

Oct 6, 1999
60' 1.83
1/8 7.15
1/8 MPH 104.66

Sept 22, 1999
60' 1.78
1/8 7.19
1/8 MPH 102.99
1/4 10.92
1/4 MPH 132.84

April 14, 1999
60' 1.66
1/8 7.09
1/8 MPH 101.28
1/4 10.86
1/4 MPH 133.34

Tired of listing them. The combination that we are currently running makes 250+ more horsepower than we were using in 2001, but we just haven't had the time to play around with the stock tires. We will be at the street tire shootout next month in BG.

Take care,

Tom

Tom,
That's a great time. I just put a second stage on the car. It is activated by a rev speed meter that send out a 12v- when the car hits a preset speed. I have it set at about 60mph. I haven't tried it yet but I'm hoping the extra 100 shot in second and third gear will be good for a couple of tenths getting me into the 6's on true street tires.

VIP-RT10,
Sorry to hear you think 1/8th mile times are useless... 0-100mph acceleration runs. Yeah whothehell needs those  I'm not sure what kind of races you get into but most of the racing I do is almost exactly the same as an 1/8th mile track. At the stoplight, light go's green I'm on true STREET tires and I smoke hisass. That's what I do in real life so that's what I set my car up for.

And while we are criticising the way others like to race I think I will give my opinion. I think some of this crap is a big waste. Lets put slicks on our cars and build up these huge dyno #'s and trailer them to the track and cut up the interior to put in 5 point harnesses and rollbars and lets take the car to the track and run the hell out of this beautiful $80k car. And then when we drive it on the street (what it was designed for) we'll get smoked by a z06 with a 50shot because we cant control all of that power.

To me that sounds a little useless. Now I am not knocking EVERYONE with a big hp car. I love power. I would love to have 900rwhp but I wouldnt do it to just take it to the track. I am considering a heffner package but I will have to accept that in most races I will come across I will probably be a little slower with more power. Now if I can "engineer" the race to my advantage (60mph roll on) then thats great but most of the races I've come across are stop light to stop light. And your useless 1/8th mile time will leave you sitting at the light.
Just my opinion...

O.K. I have braced myself... let 'em rip.

I prefer a F1 race where technology actually gets to the street and not a boring race on an oval or a straight line. That is why there are many different types of racing, to suit the different needs. I personally don't care for drag racing, does nothing for me. Again, I like a car that can do all 3, stop, go and corner.

Vip,
I respect your opinion. I have never and probably will never find myself in a race that involves stopping going and cornering. I street race occasionally and thats about it. Now i'm not saying that the idea of flying around a coarse doesn't sound intersting. I would love to give it a try but to be honest it scares me a little. I would probably fly off th track and hit the wall. Where do you race?

Very cool what car do you use for your F1 racing?

I drove a Ferrari F50 for about 8000 miles, why? With our new business, I will be doing some F1 connections and hopefully drive one with my connections.
At what ever race we would all take on, we would be busted anyway, wether it be 1/8th or 0-100. Maybe I'm not a fan of 1/8th since I didn't think of it as important for me, but as you put it, from light to light, I see where it would come into play. No hard feelings, I now fully understand why 1/8t his important to some people.
