Good lord! Do what it takes to make a street legal version with similar straight-line numbers and 'close-to' corning limits, keep the pricing somewhere around the SRT-10, and Dodge will have every Viper fanatic drooling for weeks....

There were no entries bearing the Competition Coupe logo at that race because it's barred from racing in two of the three premier professional road-racing series—Grand American, which hosts the Daytona race, and American Le Mans. Both of these series have numerous racing classes that ideally each contain cars that are about equally fast. According to the officials we talked to, the Viper Competition Coupe is presently too fast for the slowest classes and not quite quick enough for the fastest.

Exactly what kind of cars are in the Fastest Class?

[/QUOTE]the "fastest" cars that i believe they are talking about are the GTS class cars...alla C5-R, GTS-R/T, etc...and the slower cars being the grand-am class cars...usually like Crapmaros and stuff....

...IMO the way things seem to be headed it would only make sense for Dodge to hop up the Comp Coupe...or at least factory support a team(please God give us Oreca back!) and let them do the neccesary modifications to allow the car to compete in the GTS class again...

Hi Frank, thanks for the post. I asked the question about the rear axle ratio in the comp coupe because after reviewing the specs, the hp is just a bit above the stock SRT-10, but the 0-60 time is listed as 3.1 seconds. Something isn't adding up here unless the hp listed is perhaps rwhp. Any ideas?

The weight and the slicks. Imagine launching at 4000 RPM with little or no wheelspin. THAT is why they call it a "launch"! ;)

Pure racing tires make a huge difference in 0-60. Also, look at the cornering G forces....no street car can do that, not even the mighty Enzo.

Yes, I believe the tires are a huge factor. The CC also has a far less restrictive exhaust system with its race muffler and no cats. With Goodyear slicks on, my CC weighs 2,934 pounds without fuel or driver. Isn't this like a 400 lb savings over the SRT-10? You also have a lightweight flywheel on the CC which helps it rev quicker. Although the advertised HP difference is only 20, I would not be surprised if you were looking at a much larger difference at the rear wheels. I have seen dyno results that would indicate 40-50 RWHP gain over an SRT-10.

Their is no parking brake.
To compete in the the GTS class of the American Lemans series the car is too heavy as built and is underpowered to race against the C5R or the other GTS cars. That class is down around 2700 lbs in weight and around 700 HP motors. Hard to tell as they restricted the hell out of the Old GTSR cars. Had they not restricted the GTSR is would have beat the hell out of the Vettes.
In Grand Am it looks like the car has too much power.
