Has anyone read this magazine yet? They do a new test around a track as a benchmark and have tons of cars. I can't remember the track but it was 4.2 miles in length.

The Ford GT was the fastest with around 3 minutes flat. The Z06 had a 3:01.1 whereas the SRT-10 coupe pulled a 3:01.6!! They were impressed with how fast the SRT10 was when it was pushed around the track and how it stacked up against the Z06 considering a 270lb weight difference. I dont think the Viper needs a whole lot to pass the Z06!

The SRT-10 Viper is a phenominal car! Think about how awesome the Gen I and II were when they came out, and they were pretty much the fastest things on Earth. The Gen III is such a far superior car in every department (I'm not going to comment on looks because eveyone has their own opinion, so let's just leave it at that), and everyone is hacking on the car because GM and Ford finally, after 13 years of being dominated by the Viper, got their collective crap together and built a car that was equal. The FGT has been discontinued, and the Z06 comes with a roof that ejects whenever it feels like it and balsa wood floors. I doubt either of these cars would exist if it weren't for the Viper, and I'd still choose a Viper over either of them any day of the week.

That was a great article. I own a cobalt SS as my daily driver, and that car managed to beat all the other FWD 4 bangers, plus the Mustang GT. I thought that was a pretty impressive showing for that car.

I was also impressed how almost all the car in the $30k-$60k group were within 2 second of each other. And somehow the 3900 lb GT500 was like 1.5 seconds behind the corvette and lotus with two fouled coil packs and spark plugs. They said they will run it again, and since it should do better it might put down a pretty impressive number. I can't imagine what the vette owners will do if the vette gets beat by a mustang on a road course.

I thought it was great how well the viper fared as well. It's just a hair slower than the vette, but behaves better on a track, which solidified that I want the viper and not the Z06.

not sure how many laps were run? but i suspect that the ford GT's times would slow significantly if more than 1 lap was run as heat soak from the supercharger would hold it back.

I've been to a number of open track days with Ford GTs. During summer months, they have never been able to stay out for a full 20 minute session because they would overheat.

Yes and no. 1.5 seconds on an autocross course is tough, but 1.5 seconds on nurburgring is not much at all. This was a 4.2 mile course. I would think the 1/4 mile time of that car would be down maybe half a second. There are a few straights on that course of sizeable length, which it could make it up.
