Will I be able to take my 2001 GTS to an automatic car wash (touch-free, of course) without damaging the wheels, etc?

Seriously, it rains a little much here.

It's really embarrassing when people say "that's your black Viper that I saw, right?" When it's really sapphire blue but very dirty".

Never done it - but here are my concerns..

1. Does this type use any sort of guide or track? If so, your wheels and tires most likely will not fit or will be damaged.

2. If it is no touch, then what the heck are they using from a chemical perspective that eats dirt, salt, sand, grit, etc. but does not harm your paint / clear coat.

3. As above - if it cleans well, I am guessing it will strip off any polish / wax you may have on your car in the process.

Short term gain, probably... if you try it - let us know how it works out.

PS - I Zaino'd the TRUCK this past weekend - including the license plate

but all the vehicles earn their keep - either on the track or getting to the track. Sodo these things have to be mutually exclusive???

USAF BAD ASP, you better not move here next year! Everyone bad mouths our part of the county and a year later they move here. STOP moving here everyone.

SlowCreamer, just find a detail shop that hand washes cars. There is one just below the university hotel plaza. If you take the first exit just over the bridge on I-5 north at the University of Washington exit, it should be one block to the west. They were doing hand washes a few years ago for a fair price.

I use Zaino...and I put it on my license plate too! (Admitting is the first step to recovery.) It says in the owner's manual, as Janni said, a Viper's wheels are too wide for the tracks at an automated car wash. At least for me, washing the Viper is a short vacation...a bit of an escape. Oh yeah..and the suds...and the water....gotta go...the car is filthy.

Not only should you NOT use a automated car wash, you should still wash it yourself! Use a good car wash solution, and save time on drying by getting a good air compressor and blow the water off the car with filtered compressed air. Works great and cuts washing time in half. But you have convinced me never to leave california. C O D Y, im not coming to your state

Used to be that the touchless used a strong citrus type of cleaning agent, don't know if that is still how they clean. that and high pressure. At an automotive service show the guy would taste some to shock you and show how harmeless it was. However, I know that at least one of the big 3 would not approve the wash system because the agent was so ******* the different materials used on the vehicle.

No way on any car wash, and would not recommend touchless. You know they must use something potent to cut through the dirt without touch.

Thank you for all the input.

I think I will just keep a picture of my car with me so that I can show that it really is blue.

When weather gets nicer, maybe my car will stay cleaner.

Ive taken mine through the touchless. My Rear left wheel got stuck but I was able to power out of it.

If you do. Wear your rain coat. My GTS leaks. Thats ok though, I just think of it as the interior wash bonus.

All the 'touchless' washes in my area really mean "We don't use powered nylon brushes to quickly destroy your finish! Instead, we destroy it slowly, by hand, using the finest in minimum-wage labor, dirty wash cloth, and recycled water!"

Oh, and none of the wheel tracks I've ever seen will accommodate a 13" rear wheel.
