If not in the market, then how can you answer, propose an answer or even feel your opinion is worth the 2 pennies.

From what I understand, as long as you're not bashing the Viper...which we aren't, or trying to negotiate a Gen. V down to $50k...which we aren't, then we are entitled to our opinion. As a Viper owner and "paying" member on this site, I suggest that you quit being a cheapskate and pony up the hundred bucks to be a member or YOUR opinion doesn't mean $hit...and that's LESS than 2 cents.

I'd like to file a complaint to Greg and Co. : non paying cheap skates should not be allowed to post condescending remarks. You should have to PAY to have that privilege.....

Simply asking folks to explain their opinion with what they would actually do should not be that threatening.

But, then you call someone a cheapskate because they didn't pay an annual fee for a club where you get little in return, but instead purchased the product the entire club is formed around? The club fee is what determines knowledge in your opinion?

Just confirming, but I think the GenV forum, right. I own a GenV. Right off the bat more qualified for this forum than someone that does not. But please, keep adding your expertise and insults as I guess your club fee gives you that right.

I could stay in the Dodge family now, trade my CLS for a charger and buy a $50K Gen V next year (;)) for the week end and track.
On a more serious note, thumbs up to Dodge, this is a marketing hit and it will bring revenues. Let's hope it can bring more light to the Viper.

To be honest, I am not really sure what you are referring to...

Pathoguy
merely said the IMAGE of the Viper as the Big Man On The Dodge Campus has taken a bit of hit from the Hellcats and I agreed.

You are the definition of a cheapskate. You buy a new Viper but don't pay a hundred bucks to join the club. Why don't you join or beat it. I want feedback from somebody who appreciates and respects the club.

Why don't you go to VOA...I hear they give a "rub and tug" with every membership.

I think you must be the definition of an idiot then because you really have no concept of who you are even speaking with, membership involvement, etc. But, you feel because you paid for a club membership, you are entitled to insult an owner of the car in the forum you are in when you don't have the car nor plans to get one...

then even better, you ask an actual car owner to leave the club/forum and even cry to a moderator because your feelings got hurt that you were asked to explain a BS opinion you have based upon no facts or experience. I am glad you value your club membership so much, but please remind yourself what forum you are in (GenV). If you still own your Gen2, I suspect you have valuable information to share in that Forum. But, no matter how much you paid for your membership, it does not buy you experience or knowledge in the forum for the product built 10yrs after the one you have experience with.

Don't you ever read your own posts and say "wow, that was stupid. I am in a forum of a car I don't own and I am telling an owner of a $100k+ car that the forum is for they are cheap because they did not buy a club membership for this year. How stupid I must look when I people realize I spend a $100 and they spent much more and I am telling them they are cheap."

First, I don't care who you are...your a condescending ******. Second, you are in fact a cheap individual....and I don't care if you own a $100k car. Ownership of a new Viper doesn't come with a complimentary **** pass. You know what's funny, I can't afford a new Viper but I'm nowhere near as cheap as you. And I don't feel stupid at all because every reply you post only solidifies what I mentioned above.

And what's more, if Joe Blow walks into a dealership and can now choose between a $65k 707hp Challenger or Charger....or a $100k plus 640hp Viper: that does not bode well for Viper sales any which way you slice it. But I guess you have to be "in the market" to figure that out.

exactly, you do have to be in the market to figure that out. If you walk in to get a Viper, you presumably have the money to get it. at $65k challenger or charger is not going to confuse you to get that instead, unless you were never in the market for a Viper to begin with. It will only help the Viper on the chance a person goes into the dealer to get a Challenger or Charger based upon the hype and then sees the Viper and realizes they want a Viper and can afford it. It is only upside for the Viper.

But, as you say, if the person could not afford one, they were never in the market anyways. It really is pretty simple.

You put down people , the car, etc and when you get called out on anything, you resort to personal attacks.

I simply asked for the facts or logic from the statements being made. And this is yet another post where you are insulting again. You are calling someone cheap that you don't know. (so you have know way of knowing) which highlights another case of you strongly expressing opinions without knowledge. You call someone a **** because they challenged your statements by asking you to clarify. And then to top it off, you state you can't afford the car (thus not in the market) but are more than happy expressing opinions of what a buyer looks like and behaves and what is needed for the car to sell. In your shoes, I would be letting those that have either purchased, are in the market to purchase or those that were in the market and purchased something else speak up as they have knowledge on the subject. Hey, we can agree to disagree on the topic. I don't know you and you don't know me.

Guys-

Everyone'e opinion has equal value, member or no. We don't want to go where others have gone and have a "join us or you don't exist" mentality, that's not in the spirit of American muscle, everyone can buy one, and we all have a blast, and we all have equally worthless opinions.

I recently ran across an invite for (ahem) another club that had a "branded" cruise. Basically if you/your car is not in the club, you are worthless, and can't come on the cruise (with other Vipers). This is the direct opposite of what this car and club is about and apparently this has gotten lost somewhere. Please, we are not elitist Ferrari owners, we are brash, ridiculous, loud, obnoxious Viper owners, and we have a LOT in common (who gives a flying crap what tshirt you wear) and we all are complete a*holes, so please don't demean those that choose another direction, that's their right, they own a Viper, and if you saw them on the road, you'd flash them a V, no matter what they posted here.

So to the origin of the thread, the Hellcat is badass, if you want one, well stay tuned...

Here is the last paragraph from the article:

Now that this ’Cat is out of the bag, the big question is how far SRT will let the Hellcat powerplant stray. Bragging rights are fun, and the raucous, blown V-8 could turn pretty much anything Chrysler sells into the most powerful vehicle of its type in the world. Says Dodge/SRT brand CEO Tim Kuniskis: “Right now it’s in the Challenger and the Charger, and that’s all we’re going to talk about.” Yeah, but can we have a Durango Hellcat? How about a Dart Hellcat? Okay, that last one won’t happen, but a Grand Cherokee Hellcat or a Chrysler 300 Hellcat seem, er, reasonable to us.

It would irk me some to buy the halo vehicle that has less power than other offerings. I can't really think of too many other manufacturer's who have their most premium models with less power than a lower model. Only Bentley (Mulsanne) and maybe BMW (7 series) comes to mind.

any data to back that opinion?

Data??????? I'm in R & D....do enough research at work thank you very much.....NO I have no data, nor will I be looking for any. Don't see a whole lot of statistical support in your posts, but they can be quite lengthy and I don't read through the really long ones.

If you were in the market for a Gen5, would it really cause you to go elsewhere?

I have my Gen 5 and although delighted with the car, if the Hellcats had been announced before I bought the car.....YES it might. When I bought the viper, I did not expect a 4 door 4500 lb car to be able to match its 1/4 and 0-60 times. It's even worse that it's another Dodge. Either the same marketing people are still involved as before, or Dodge has something very very special planned for the viper........please let it be the latter.

Because apparently no one wants stick shifts anymore. I noticed the same thing back when I was looking for parts for my 67 Dart 5.7 Hemi swap. The engine came from an 06 Charger, but I was putting a manual behind it and looking up flywheels and pilot bearings and stuff but couldn't find anything. When I saw they never had a manual I was confused.

It *****. I can understand if they don't want to offer one in every trim level, but the SRT trim level should offer a manual on the Charger. You are marketing to driving enthusiasts at that level. A least let a stick be an option.

Agreed. That's one reason I heistate to see an auto in the Viper. I don't want to see a stick go away entirely like in the Porsche, but then again I guess I don't really have plans to buy a new Viper any time soon, so I guess it wouldn't really affect me much. On a high volume car like a Charger it seems weird to not offer one since you'd likely have enough volume to make the gearboxes more affordable. With the Viper you wouldn't have near the volume price breaks with multiple transmission options.

As you know, I have been pushing for an auto.
However, it should only be an available option.
Some guys love their manuals and I have no problem with that at all.
