Being in chatsworth you should be rebuilding the motor yourself. Some of the best engine shops are local to you, and would be alot cheaper than a crate motor. Even with heavy modifications you would still come out cheaper.

Gen 1 "service engine assembly", a.k.a. "crate motor" is available from Chrysler. The part number is 4848601. We just got a notice from DC that these assemblies are in short supply and will no longer be produced. You may want to act fast if you are considering a new engine assembly.

Yes, the Gen I crate engines will be gone shortly. I believe they are going for about 10,500 or somewhere in there. Check with your friendly local Dodge dealer for specifics. If you want one, you had better act fast, after this supply is gone, there will be no more Gen I crate motors avaialble! I posted a note on this site about this a couple of weeks ago when I first heard about it.
