On 4/23/03 I stocked two #4626640AD Upper Engine Gasket Set for GEN1 Motors, at that time the MSRP was $615.00. I have used them, so I'm re-stocking them. Well they came in this morning 5-13-03 [19 days] and I fell off my chair when I saw the price!!!! The gasket Set is now MSRP $904.00!!  And the set does not even have Valve Stem Seals in it! Once again DC is SCREWING Viper Owners and Dealers!! Somebody at DC IS GOING TO GET AN EAR FULL from me this morning! :p

Though the volume probably isn't there, at these margins perhaps the aftermarket will come to the rescue.

Maybe the OEM supplier could supply the market themselves.......

"Maybe the OEM supplier could supply the market themselves..." Ron- I think the suppliers are obligated to sign a contract with Dodge, to sell only to Dodge.
That has been my experience so far. The only time I have been able to get anything for the car outside of Dodge, has been when the parts are not unique to the Viper.
examle; Rear Gears, tires, exhaust, etc.

Jeff,

Agreed on the contract, but someday it will expire and / or perhaps there is a way to share tooling with a subsidiary.

One can hope......

DC has to pay for all those gen1 Arrow re-builds. This is how they do it. every 10 gasket sets that they sell now will reimburse them for 1 warranty re-build.
See, their early, poor quality, OEM gaskets won't cost them anything in the long run.

It suc*s but look at it this way, an extra $300 or so tacked on to an expensive, one time, job, isn't the end of the world.

It's one more way for the top exec's at D.C. to make their bonuses higher.

I mean come on now, they had to settle on splitting $56 million between the top 13 executives this year for their bonuses.

How can they be expected to be happy with those paltry amounts.

Thank God I bought mine from you Chuck in late February! If I would have waited another two months it would have cost me another $400! Talk about a lucky break for me...its about time! :)

Chuck, Thanks for all the work you did on my car, it runs great, did not even boil in my "testdrive" thru Broadway & 5th Avenue. It was fun, but I wount do it again (propably)!

Thanks for a first class service!

Why don't you get a AR-15 and go on a shooting spree at DC? That always seems to fix my day

But seriously....[******].

Update!
I have talked to a lot of people at DC and they all said that pricing is not their Dept.? Finally I got a hold of someone in "Marketing" and he started to say "well you have to take in all the factors of producing these Gasket Kits" I stopped him in the middle of his sentence and told him he's pulling my CHAIN! So I asked him why is it that a GENII Upper Engine Gasket Set #4882950AF list for $424.00!? Granted the GENI Set has a few more paper gaskets in it but not $480 more!! He had NO answer for that!? Then I said I want to talk to your Boss!! So now I'm waiting for someone to call me from DC HQ. This has got my Blood Presure up! Do they think I'm stupid?

I'd just like to offer up a hearty "Thank You" for the interest you are showing towards this issue and the steps you are taking. I hope a favorable resolution can be reached for Gen1 owners who may end up needing these gaskets. I may end up being one of them and I'd sure rather pay $4xx than $8xx.
