For all of us Dodge fans that actually thought the american engineers have designed a car with ferocious looks for 2003 was it, take another look,.... The 2003 is nothing more than a replica of the 2000 vette. Thank god i bought the 2000 and that many of you will not wait to order this car for 2003..We should all wright a petition to Dodge about why they tampered with the looks?? Was there anything wrong? was it ugly? did it not get looks? like drooling looks? Why kill the shape of the batmobile?? WHERE THESE ENGINEERS ONE NIGHT TAKING SOME LSD AND CAME UP WITH THAT? We always wait in general in any car for the new model to come in, especially when you think thatit will look better, but I really am disgusted with Dodge to kill the looks for a few extra ponies they claim they will get from the redefined car..Well, what can I say.. what do I know!!!!

Will the real Snake please stand up!!!!!!

Venomous,

This topic has been discussed and digested by all. Here's a few thoughts from the thread...Just a few facts:

1) If you haven't seen it in the flesh...you haven't seen it at all!

2) Dodge compiled a "wish list" from our Viper Nation, and has completely satisfied each and every one.

3) This is the next generation car...not just a cosmetic upgrade.

4) If the next gen Snake looked similar to the current one, with these new incredible performance numbers, the first generation cars would take a severe value nosedive .. not a good thing for anybody.

5) The exciting fact about the 2003 is that it was designed as a race car first (remember the concept coupe?), allowing Team Viper to make sure that OUR street version won't have any negative performance characteristics because of style attributes.

6) Relax, it'll grow on 'ya

I think Dodge is smoothing out the Viper and bringing it in line of a true Exotic race car.....So they can truly tell Corvette and Ferrari to step aside, American Thunder and Style are here!......just my .02...in the infamous words I heard before the Viper was described as a battle axe , yet the Ferrari was the sword....mmm....how shaw we describe the neww 2003 Viper....with 500/500/500......ah yes ...its EXCALIBER....the sword od swords.....bye ferrari.....lol

It has grown on me, like a fungus. I still think it looks putrid. It will seriously increase the value of my blue/white though. What is the big deal about +50hp? K&N's, smoothies and headers and you have +50 hp. Woopie. Most people drive their cars at @ 40% of its potential anyway..

Actually Engineers don't design the exterior styling of a car. That job is reserved for automotive designers that go to those artsy schools. So don't blame us engineers for the styling of the new Viper. I am an Engineer at Ford Motor Company. The Mustang just doesn't do it for me though, so I just had to have a Viper. I think most auto styling designers come from 1 of 3 schools in the US. One is in Detroit and one is in California I think. The engineers just have to work around the styling design that was made, and try to get all the parts to fit in that design. I too am disappointed with the styling of the 2003 Viper though. No engineer would ever have designed it like that, LOL.

To reply to my own letter, the thing that i am going to miss most..and thats why I bought my 2000 is, the incredible Brutish look of the viper..Like you guys say, its more sleekish looking. But the designers took away that ferocious look it came out with..anyway, next...........

I think you guys and gals need to hold your comments on The 2003 Viper until you see it in person! I know you have heard this before, but the pictures really do not do it justice. I have seen it in the flesh at the Detroit Auto Show, and about the only thing missing on it that I think would be reminiscent of the original Viper is the sweeping curve behind the front wheel and up into the door, just under the mirror (The current notch there looks like a Vette). I think that the "clamshell" hood curve would really appease a lot of you, and it would keep the original Viper muscle and ferocious look alive. Outside of that, 505 cu. in., 500 hp and 500 ft. lbs. of torque is monstrous! They did have to lower the drag coefficient, so that is why the front of it looks the way it does, but they still managed to keep it Viperish looking.

Roland, I've seen the new 2003 Viper in person at the Detroit Auto Show too, but for a minute there I thought I was at the General Motors exhibit looking at the new Camaro. It just doesn't do it for me.

For all those disappointed with the Chapter 3 looks please read this brief explanation.

In the inception of the original Viper, Team Viper was given specific instruction to develop a sports car based on the EXACT look of the original show car. I think we can all agree that Roy and the Team did exactly that. But because of having to conform to the great looking body, the Viper actually suffered in a few areas. The one main area that really was evident was the aerodynamics. For owners of early Vipers and even the later GTS, I am certain that you have all experienced that light "skating" feeling whenever you try to get your Viper over 150 MPH! To achieve the look this was what had to be sacrificed, great top end numbers.

Now it is time to produce a completely new design. This time John and the Team decided to make sure this Viper out-performed the original. In order to get this done, they started with the dimensions that would allow them the greatest chance at succeeding. Once you see the final numbers on this new beast, I believe that many of you will simply be astounded. The width, Aerodynamics, and design were all taken into consideration to get this ultimate performance machine.

I recently met the actual designer while I was in Detroit. He gave me his business card, and when I flipped it over I said, "holy **** "! The wheel wells were all flared out, and the body seemed to have much more appealing, and yes, bulgy lines. The problem though in producing this great looking piece, was that all the other elements would greatly suffer if they stuck to this exact design. The flares would have actually made the width of the Viper illegal for street use. And the more bulgy body would have brought back that skating feeling at high speeds.

Was this the right way to go? Not if you want the ultimate performing sports car. One that can match or out perform other cars that cost up to a million bucks. Obviously looks are important, but the Viper was and always needs to be at the top when it comes to performance. The Chapter 3 will achieve this goal!!!!
