A big HELL NO!!! That's what makes a Viper a driver's car. If you want traction control and no fear of losing it then get a joystick and a computer game.

HELL NO! If Vipers had TC, there wouldn't be such a steady supply of takeoff parts and we'd all have to buy everything from the dealers' parts counters.

You must be a spy - sent by the bowtie boys to instigate dissention in the ranks. Guards!!!??? Off with his head!!!!!

Argh. Once again as I don my flame proof suit, I'll remind everyone that I am indeed speaking as an owner now...

But of everyone who's trashing traction control as lame and "nanny assisted", I'd bet that at least half of you would have gotten it if it was available as an option.

I've never heard anyone complaining about their "nanny assisted" antilock brakes.

If given the option of traction control on a Viper, I would not take it. NO to traction control!!!!

Sad but true. Some would have gotten it because they believed it would add resale value. Others because they're wimps. Thankfully the only options Vipers come with is a choice of three colors. LOL

As far as ABS, in the pre-ABS years there were very few complaints about not having it and since it's not an option now people are stuck with it.

Hmmmmm, ledfoot, I see the problem. If all you know is a "lead foot" and not all it takes to drive a Viper, I see why you're pulling for TC! :D

Absolutely NOT.

I despise any buffering between me and the car. I turn it off in the ZR1 and M Coupe before I even slip into first gear.

The traction control in the Coupe is BRUTAL - scratch 2nd on a quick shift and it will apply the f'n BRAKES. I hate it. The Z is a little more forgiving but she too will simply snap the throttle back at your foot if you slide the back end out.

It may save some folks but I imagine it creates as many scenarios for accidents with good drivers.

I shudder at the thought of my Viper restricted that way - the worst part about the Z and Coupe is that it defaults to on...

This topic kills me. All cars will have active handling by the year 2010. All these "John Wayne" responses are ludicris. In real world driving having AH is a PURE safety device. For example, when some uninsured mexican pulls out in front of you and you swerve madly to avoid hitting him, hit a patch of sand on the side of the road and start doing a few death rolls I bet you will be thinking "dang glad I don't have AH on this machine".

YOU CAN TURN IT OFF when your at the track. The guys who all say it's *** would have been the same ones who would have said seat belts are *** back before they were standard.

I wish I could get it reto-fitted on my ACR!!!

BTW: mechincal TC is standard on all 2003's.

NO!!!

If you need a SILLY computer deciding how much power the engine may produce and the tires may bring on the road -> switch to a different car

I have to admit that under certain conditions (e.g. lot of water on the road) ABS would help - but if you do not have ABS you have to learn to drive very carefully in the rain.

Maybe traction control is not as much fun as full manual for you, but how about when it's time for someone else to drive; a Valet, the Dealer or even your Significant Other?

That very issue came up with a friend of mine who wanted to let his wife drive his heavily modded car, but was concerned she may not be able to control the power (to the detriment of both Viper and relationship!)

Turns out there are several aftermarket traction control devices available. One of the best is from http://www.racelogic.co.uk. The good news is, no Viper tax. The bad news is, they have no plans to offer launch control for the Viper.

Nope, don't miss it, don't want it, wouldn't have optioned it. I'm a stickler for me being in control of my car and would never allow a vehicle to drive for me even if it gave me a decided advantage. The only things auto on my cars that I've learned to tolerate are ABS and auto transmissions - though I love my cruise control but thats only because I commute 215 miles per day.

I think cars that can think would be great for the agessive soccar moms in the SUVs, but for my car not a chance in he!!.

Just be careful not to damage that hood. You should be fine otherwise.

Why I don't need traction control in my toys :

1. My cars never see rain, ice or snow. My ****** does.
2. My wife never drives any of them.
3. My dealer never drives any of them.
4. Nobody but me drives any of them.

Sure, accidents may and do happen - but I'm here to tell ya that traction control can surprise a driver and nearly cause accidents as well. The Coupe applying it's brakes for example when shifting quickly and scratching the rear tires - you will quite literally fly towards the windshield as the car "protects you" from this oh so massive near tragedy. The Z will do it's damndest to come to a full stop by refusing throttle input...nevermind who might be behind you and regardless of how good or poor driver you are, you are now just along for the ride as the car sorts itself out. No thanks.

I suspect there are a lot of Viper owners here who also follow some of those rules above and therefore don't need or desire it.

I do agree with some of the other posts here - that if you're too concerned with the potentials you might come across on the road and wish for traction control in your Viper, you need to either buy a daily driver or trade down into a Volvo.

I consider that good news.

It's not that we think we can drive better than the computer, it's that we want to drive instead of the computer.

I think that if the power of the Viper gets over 600HP (next GTS anyone?) then they will likely adapt some active handling system from the Mercedes parts bin to the Viper.

Surely, active handling was never in the design scope of the original Viper, but neither were power windows/mirrors, run flat tires, air bags, ABS, or air conditioning, but having a simple active handling system is not really an option on any other major manufacturer supercars any more, and adding more power to be competitive will push it's inclusion as a requisite safety system.

My Z06 has a Competitive Mode in AH that allows you to drive the car to the limits without interfering. It will allow you to spin the tires and even get the rear end loose to an extent. As much as you would ever wag the tail while running fast, just won't let you do Dukes of Hazzard slides. It really is a great safety wire especially on new roads and poor conditions.

Given the fact that most of you are wealthy (have a lot to lose) and drive quickly on the street, I'm surprised you wouldn't want a good AH system just in case. Do you guys at least have insurance?

If you need AH to maintain control on new roads, either you have a very serious and fundamental flaw in driving ability, or your road contractors **** bigtime.
