Doctor told me not to drive my car!

OK, is it just me?

I'm just over 6ft 1in tall, contrary to my user name I am not fat (its because I also have a Harley Fatboy) I weigh in at just under 14stone, I have a seat lowering kit in my GTS and plenty of Head room.
Weekend last I was giving charity joy rides in my Viper throughout the day. Come Monday morning I'm back at work, (I'm a self employed Handy Man) so while working all of a sudden my back goes into spasm, I end up on my hands and Knees and have been off work since.
Booked myself into a private osteopath for a session yesterday, well that didn't help me, so today go to the Doctors who just gives me some anti infantries and tells me I should not do track days and should find another avenue for enjoyment! ***!

Any recommendations guys? Do any of you get back trouble after driving your Vipers? Do you use any kind of back supports?

You really need to start working out and do back strengthening exercises. Your back muscles are weak!!!!!!:rolleyes:

Remember its not the skeletal structure that holds you up. Its your muscles. My L4 L5 was shot. Disks were gone.. They wanted to fuse my vetebrae together and is was a 50% chance I would be better. Spent thousands on these BS chiropractors that soaked me for enough money that I could have built a TT Viper motor with the money I wasted.. Two different back specialists told me my back was finished... One time I remember my legs giving out when I was in the bathroom trying to take a **** and I couldnt get up as I tried to wipe my ass. I was on the ground for half an hour and I couldnt move..One memorable moment I dont want to relive.. lol.. All the pills. Voltaran etc. Just mask the pain. I booked for surgery and 2 months prior a Dr of internal medicine I met told me to stop what I was doing..Stop going to the chiropracters..stop taking the pills..etc.. I told him "I cant" The pain" He said. What do you havs to lose..Your going under the knife in2 months.. Lots of walking. Lots of water. Keep hydrated... "The body has a natural way of healing itself if you give it time" Sleep on the side that hurts.. Lie on the ground periodically.. It will allow the muscles to totally relax and align the spine... I could go on.... Ive done the MRI and Catscans.... Long story short.. I keep an eye on my back and did not go under the knife. Nor did I go back to any other chiropracters and dont take any pills... I workout like an animal. and Bench 330 and squat 400. Give it time brother.. You will Heal!!!

I teach martial arts and have helped many students with back problems as well as others with various physical problems. A good chiropractor (and they vary) could help you. If you go to my webpage. dmeagleclaw.com you can see a testimony from a man who was going on this third back surgery and by taking and doing my exercises along with stretching routine didn't that to get the surgery, went back to work, and a whole lot of good from it. Read his story.

I am 64 years old and can still do the splits in all directions. You need to strengthen, stretch and push your body into condition in the right manner of exercise. Or you can whine about it the rest of your life and let it get worse. Doctors are good at cut and paste but sometimes you can avoid the whole situation with preventative methods.

I'm definitely going to try the Mussel strengthening route, thank you :) I just wish the Doctors would give you advice on how to do this as opposed to just prescribing you drugs.

We do generally offer advise on activities and muscle strengthening, but honestly the physical therapists and exercise instructors tend to know more about the exercise side of things. I don't have back troubles, but I do perform surgery on backs for a living (and necks, fractures, etc) and also take care of a lot of people with non-op causes of low back pain (which is the majority of people with it). Sounds like this is a bad muscle strain, which can hurt like hell and last for a few weeks or longer. Anti-inflammatories are really helpful for reducing pain and interrupting the cycle of inflammation. But back strengthening and stretching is usually the solution for long-term relief and prevention.

A prescription anti-inflammatory is often better than over-the-counter (OTC). Also, taking the anti-inflammatory on a schedule instead of as needed can go a long way towards helping (just watch out for GI side-effects). I don't know what is OTC in the UK, but naproxen (aleve is the brand name) taken twice daily is a good option.

If the pain persists for longer than 6 weeks, it's good to get an X-ray to ensure that there is nothing wrong structurally. Also, this is just friendly advise, not medical care :)

Finally, drive the Viper unless you have pain while driving it (or unless you are constantly drunk on pain meds). Driving the Viper is good for the soul :)

Great advice, many thanks for taking the time to reply, I'm currently using Co-Codamol 500mg tablets and Diclofenac 50mg, going to see the Osteopath again this morning, hopefully that will be my last session for a while!

Once again thank you everyone for all the advice :2tu:

Seriously Mark hope your back on your feet soon.....

Mark is younger than me! To be fair, I had severe back pain when I was in my 30's. Trigger-point therapy (maybe 12 sessions total in the past 18 years) and getting in better shape made all the difference!
