I ordered some new component speakers for my doors and was wondering about door panel removal or if it even needs to be removed to extract the tweeter and install a crossover?? Any illustrations as to where all the clip as and screws are so I dont break it.

I think the main can be removed, not sure about the tweeter. It has been so long that I only rember removing the panel; but, not whether it was absolutely necessary. I did not have a separate tweeter with my replacement. PM sent.

Changing the tweeter requires removal of the door panel. What aftermarket speakers did you get? The OEM woofer is of an odd size so many aftermarket 6.5" will not fit well the opening in the door...some modifications are required in many cases.

What modifications am I in for?

I just replaced my stock sub with a Precision Power PM-654 mid base driver. I remember them being a really good car Audio company back in the early 90's but havent heard much about them, but for $29 shipped from Amazon, I couldnt go wrong. I also ordered a pair of their components for my doors which havent arrived yet. The fitment of this sub is PERFECT with the exception of the logo being askew if you do not wish to drill new holes in your car for mounting. But the speaker grill covers that.

Look at that massive magnet!!!

you will need to put the plastic grill it comes with in first and tap it into the oem location for a nice snug fit.

Finished product looks bone stock with the exception of the logo on the grill. If you look you can see the logo on the speaker itself is lined up but if you wish to center it, just drill new holes into the center console for the speaker.

The sound is much better than stock and has some really solid mid base kick to it. I tested it using some AC/DC and it handles the stock AMP power nicely!!! Remember its only a 6.5" wooffer guys, so I wasnt expecting much out of it. But if I add a nice 8-10" powered sub somewhere for the low end, it would sound REALLY REALLY good, even with my crappy stock door speakers for now. Im hoping the components balance it out nicely. All in all I feel with a speaker upgrade the old Viper's sound system is not that bad at all..

If the misalignment bothers you, a little masking tape and rattle can will do it.

Typically, the baskets of most 6.5" woofers are a bit too large in diameter to drop right into the cutout of the door panel. Depth can also be an issue and woofer might hit the glass. OEM woofer grill cannot be used and new grill will not fit flush the cutout.

Here's how I did it: I used the meshed metal part of the new grill only without its plastic frame. Luckily this did fit without any modifications.

What did you secure the metal mesh grill to?? Also these are the speakers I am using, they have a very low profile magnet.

The metal grill is just pressed in and sits tight enough. As for your new set they are really shallow so no issue with mounting depth. Question remains regarding their diameter. ...

If the door speakers are the same as the sub, should be perfect.
