I am going to be going to Viper Days at the Mid-Ohio track in may. I was told I need to get a helmit and wondered if anyone here has a recommendation? I am going to the Viper Days school to learn as much as I can about driving my new beast. Im not planning on tracking it after this unless I do another one. I mention this as I don't want to spend a bunch of money on a helmit I may only wear twice or so in my life. Thanks in advance for the imput!

You will need a Snell approved helmet, and you might check with Bobby Archer Motorsports ,as I know they have a new helmet that is quite reasonable and meets the Snell 2005 criteria. That way you will have a helmet you can use for years and do make sure you get a full face version.

( He is also one of the sponsors for Viper Days ---- brings all the tires and does the tire support )

SA2005 is the current rating that you should look for in an auto racing helmet (M ratings are for motorcycles, and don't include the fire resistant cushions and of course, different impact characteristics).

Helmetcity.com offers a 10% discount when you are a VCA member (just mention that you ARE a VCA member)

Here's a link to their SA2005 approved helmets:

Re: Drivers Helmet for Viper Days? What do you all recommend

The information above is great but please remember you only have one head and you should buy the best helmet that you can afford. The same holds true for driving suits. I wish I had followed my own words above when I got burned in a crash. Personal protection is up to the driver and is not an area to skimp money on. Just my humble opinion.

Thanks for the phone correction Rich, as it is always nice to help those who support Viper Days, plus if you have items from said sponsors it is always convenient to get help at the track --- they are right there.

Thanks for the information. There seems to be so many choices uhgg... Is there anything particular from comfort to safety that I should key in on? I dont want to spend 700 for a helmit but I dont want an egg shell protecting my head either. I assume to meet the SA2005 standard that means a helmit must have met some safety criteria. Bill you mention a full face version as something to get is there anything else that might look for? Thanks yall!

Here's another problem. You will seldom find 2 helmets of the same brand/size that fit the same. You should try them on & buy one that fits. I don't know how folks do this by mail.

Full Face all the way! I can't understand how a non-full face helmet can be SA rated?

HELMET !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you should use a cardboard box and write helmit on it..............

That's too crappy for use in a Viper ... you should at least put Viper logo stickers on the cardboard box

... and please post pics.
