Driving shoes

I usually drive barefoot but they won't let you at Viper Days. I had a person suggest wrestling shoes-about the same thing but cheaper ($50 vs $125)

Has anybody tried these?

Just curious, what size shoe do you wear? I've driven a Viper twice with my regular cross trainers (size 14) and didn't have one problem. I was extra cautious and deliberate with my movements because of the power and $ amount. The pedal spacing is a tad bit tighter than my Mazda and only caught the gas when braking twice last year. I haven't raced in a Viper before, so I can't say that driving shoes will make much difference over regular shoes. You may want to try Sparco, not sure of price though.

I've seen Ferrari driving shoes in Automobile mag before in the gift sections. Insanely priced, of course

Several Auto mail order catalogs have moose hide loafers. They are like going barefoot, the feel is amazing. I tried several of the racing shoes and they were either clumsy or had a bad sole-to-pedal feel.

I have 3 pairs of them. One is a pair of Sparco Rally shoes, an OMP, and another Sparco set. What you can get is a pair of normal wrestling shoes at the local sports store. I also have a set of Puma wrestleing shoes for when I don't want to bake my feet in the car.

Wrestling shoes are good I guess. They fit exactly like you would want for racing. I only know because I wrestled for 6 years.

I don't race though so I wouldn't know. I wouldnt have thought going in my regular sneakers would have been inconvenient in any way. I can do heel/toe in my running shoes.

Yeah until you need them & the leather shrinks as it heats up & breaks every bone in your foot!.

If you are racing get the correct footwear. Otherwise a great driving shoe is the Minnetonka Driving Moccasins, rubber grip runs up the back of the heels. I have a friend that swears buy them.

Buy driving shoes - they're designed for heel and toe driving, with decent stiffness in the arch area that wrestling shoes don't have. You'll have to change out of the wrestling shoes as soon as you get out of the car as they lack support for walking around.

When I race I wear Simpson driving shoes with nomex (fireproof). For just driving, I bought a pair of Puma Speed Cat's. To see them, go to Puma.com
If you call one of the outlet stores, they can send them to you and the cost is $49.00...you save about $20.

Piloti makes inexpensive driving shoes (sub $100 nomex lined). The low version looks exactly like a pair of tennis sneakers. Makes for a great every day driving shoe and will pass track spec.

I like my Sparco over the other ones I have tried on. The Sparco ones I have are the same exact ones like the Puma speed. They are made by Sparco, but diff name. They are Nomex lined as well. Really confi. The Sparco Rally ones are a bit wider and actually do help in heal-toe shifting.

I use the simson high tops , but I have a big foot & the simpsons are very narrow, making it easy for cramped footwells. Nike actually made a nomex lined shoe that is suitable for everyday, They have a bigger thicker sole than regular driving shoes , I bought them online for 35$, they got an 88 logo on them. I think it was LL bean or some other catolog.
